How exactly does the security system on a '90 Legend coupe work? Because I have washed my car a few times since I've had it and done many things but it's never gone off, until today when I went to get in my car and it started honkin at me!!! I about shizzed myself!!! I'm just curious how it's set off and basically I just don't know anything about it. I didn't even know it came with a factory security system. Thanks guys.

PS- I've only had the car about a week and a half and it for some reason didn't come with manual. So I bought the repair manual for 1st gen Legends, but I still don't know much at all about my car. Tonight I'm getting a new Panasonic 602u headunit installed and in a week and half I'm gettin all the windows cept the windshield tinted to 13%. Thanks guys.

mine will go off any time I lock the doors, but it was messed up at a body shop. I have heard from other Legend owners that the OEM alarm is known to go off at odd times. I have heard of one car that has gone off only twice in its whole life, and both times, 4 years apart, nothing caused it to go off. My solution is to get a good aftermarket alarm and scrap the OEM.
Later!

The alarm automatically arms when the hood, trunk and doors are locked and closed.

The alarm will go off if any of the above mentioned are opened without the key.

To turn the alarm off, just unlock (or go thru the motions) of unlocking any door with the key.

I always set off my alarm when I'm working on it. I'll lock and close the door through habit, then reach in, unlock the door with the button and open the door. Yes, it really will scare the **** outta you.

There should be a blinking SECURITY light just to the left of the steering column when the alarm is armed.
I figured it out, and it works like a charm. If a thief breaks my window and tries unlockin the car from the inside then it will go off, or if the hood/trunk is opened without using the button the inside. Thanks guys. Mine works like new.:d

I've never heard mine, it was disconnected 7 years ago at 66k miles by the original owner. It must have been acting up.
Sometimes the little piece on the door which reports when it's "open" gets broken, and will set off the alarms randomly.
my alarm goes off when the passenger door is opened with the key.

also if I lock the drivers side door when the passenger door is open then it will go off the next time I unlock the car.

question, lets say someone tries breaking in and the alarm goes off....which scares the $hit out of everyone, when does it stop? I know when a key is put in the ignition but does it shut off after a certain amount of time or till the battery dies out? or till ur neighbors disconnect it for u?
