I am looking for my first car and i think ive decided on a legend
many of my friends want / have integras and i have to break away from the mold
also, my dad had one when i was little and i remember always liking it

i would prefer a 95 6 speed... not sure if i want a GS or an LS coupe, although i realize how rare these are

i also have never driven manual, so im not sure if i should jump right into that
i guess im looking for input on what is reasonable, and what to look for.

ive read up on the car a bit, enough to know i want a 94/95

let me know what you guys think

hey,

well owning a car is not cheap, you have to pay insurance which is high for legends, maintaince which u gotta do on legends and not cheap at all, iam lookin into legends as my second car but i have saved enough for the legend and any repair costs and insurance, plus another thing that legends recommend preuium gas and gas aint cheap these days were live in...iam not tryin you not gettin a legend...iam just tellin u the why it comes money rise...unless ur spoiled...good luck:dunno: :2cool: :beerchug:

that's a good choice for a first car, but as i agree with sackingz123 i think a legend should be your second car. Legends are hard to keep up. Parts are preety hard to find, and legend suck alot of gas. I think you should get an integra like your friend have but get a GS-R one.

Using regular gas is not going to save you enough to fix anything

$3.00/gal x 18 gallons = $54
$2.80/gal x 18 gallons = $50.4 and worse MPG => you fill up more often.

You will probably have to spend quite a few bucks making sure everything is running the way it is supposed to because of the age. After that it is just regular maintainance like any other vehicle. If you don't get everything running like it is supposed to, then the costs will be strung out, annoying, and neglecting one problem usually causes another, more expensive one. Good luck with the car search.

P.S. high car insurance is mostly tied to age, driving history, and location.

thanks guys.
as for the manual / automatic, what do you guys think?
and sedan / coupe is almost a matter of preference but im wondering if theres any known and big differences between the two.
and should i want a 94/95 or is even 93 a good year
also, so far the lowest ive really seen around me is ~100k km (im canadian)
what is reasonable to buy up to... i mean the max km i should consider

You should get an 94 or 95 6-speed ls coupe. less than 150k km on her. every legend year was nice, but i like the 94 and 95 because it comes with the type II engine. and check for bhg

here is a gas saving test, true/false questions....

1. The shape of your tires influences gas mileage.
2. Running your air-conditioner can help your gas mileage.
3. Use a premium gasoline to improve your mileage.
4. To improve your gas mileage, let your engine warm up before driving.
5. You'll use less gas if you keep the engine running for 1 minute than if you stopped and restarted the engine.
6. Use overdrive gears to improve mileage.
7. Cruise control saves gas.
8. You can save gas with fuel additives or devices.
9. The last time you had a checkup can affect your mileage.

hey sup, the legend aint bad as a first car. mine was a 93 accord, and now im upgrading to more luxurious ride. the legend. im with master on this, i used to fill up my bros RL with 89 and drove fine and same mpg. so have fun with the legend. but you might would want to start off with a sedan, coupe insurance goes through the roof.

Mastervtec and Dinero have bought into the "dispelling the myth croud"

One exception is with engines or cars designed for high octane gas. In that case, using high octane gas WILL improve performance and mileage. The reason has to do with the compression and ignition timing characteristics of the engine. Those specially designed engines will only perform efficiently with higher octane gas. Most engines are not designed this way.

Using 91 in your civic will not give you better gas mileage this is true. Using lower octane than your engine is designed for can reduce your MPG. The "myth" is only half false.

Hey buddy,
I got my Legend as my first car but let me tell you that ownig a Legend has up and downsides. First of all A the Legend's manual transimission is not like that of a Civic's or a Tegs, it will feel a little less "connected". If you are a "street racer" of some sort a Legend is not for you. Legends aftermarket parts are rare and expensive and a lot of simple things like addons for the legend are not avaliable (example; Headers) So maybe your not a racer, but Kepping your car up, is not really "College Budget" But let me tell you that if you have money and your not a street racer you will be on top of the rest of young friends! I know from experince! Good Luck on your search!

can a legend get about 20MPG??

I get 24-26 usually, but have gotten as good as 27.something and as bad as 22, but not any lower.
You are in a coupe. They tend to get more mpg. Also, a manual transmission has potential to get higher mpg.

An auto sedan will realistically get right around 20mpg.

Sorry, but I have to disagree.

In town driving coupled with some highway I "AVERAGED" 24 mpg on Premium in my '91.

On straight highway I was getting around 27 mpg.

On highway with some intown running the AC all the time I managed to get 23 MPG.

I haven't had the chance to test the '95 due to the fact the VSS was out (I didn't get accurate miles), but needless to say I went 650+ miles on less than 1 1/2 tanks of gas which is about 24 MPG. I would expect I went closer to 700/750 due to the fact I made a wrong turn (at least 20 miles out of way) and ran around town a bit with my sister who lives over where I picked it up at.

I think it is sad we totally hijacked this guys thread. Perhaps we could get back on subject if he has any more questions.

I personally think that Legends are a great buy for the money provieded they are in good running shape. You get luxury and some nice power for as much as a car that is 4 years newer with 1/4 of the niceties. BMW 3's of the same era didn't even have as much stock swag as the Legend.
