flames out exhaust

I've heard that you can make flames shoot out of your exhaust pipe in your car by drilling a hole and putting a spark plug a few inches from the end. Then, by connecting it to the battery and a switch, you could make a sort of flamethrower. I would just like to know if this is a buncha baloney or not, without having to actually go out and ruin an exhaust to find out.

is there a way to make it switch activated and like have the switch in ur maunal holder area? how would u do this does anyone know?
