Need more info. Is the transmission physically damaged or is it just not shifting properly? As an owner of 6 each first gen Legends, all with auto transmissions, I've found them to be bullet proof with one exception. That exception is that the two pairs of "shift solenoids", being electromagnetic, attract iron wear metal particulates and can become inoperative which evidences as delayed/slow shifts or not shifting; and I've been there, done that with on of my coupes.
The problem is created due to the fluid not being changed as recommended every 30K miles.
The shift solenoids are external and can be removed and cleaned, thus restoring proper operation. If you need the procedure reply requesting it.
