I've went on craigslist, but most of the cars on there had something seriously wrong with them, Im talking about acuras with no engines:nono: All Im asking, is for your guys help, if any of you is selling an Acura legend from the ranges of $1000-2000 just hit me up by messaging/PMing me or something. I want an acura so bad, Im tired of seeing my cousin showing his off. Rich bastard

This man speaks the truth.

I just bought my second legend (92 legend sedan LS) for $2100. I had to fix a few things (axle, valve cover gasket, tranny mount, tires, and fluids) and that ended up costing me an additional $1000. This is just parts. Thankfully the legend is my weekend car so I can take my time fixing it myself.

A lot of legends in the $1000-2000 range are probably not going to be in great shape. Save up another $2000 and you will find a decent one. I bought my first legend for $4000 and it ran perfectly with nothing to fix. Unfortunately it got totaled.:(

'Cause every college graduate is in a position to buy one of those :giggle:

Nothing wrong with having hopes, but I think what's already been said is accurate. You won't find a G2 for under 5k that won't need a trip to the shop right off the bat. And if you do buy one that is less than healthy, you'll either end up without groceries or a hell of a credit card bill trying to nurse it back to health on student wages.

EDIT: ok, maybe 4k... I forgot mine's a GS :nutkick:

I think what he means re the radiator hose is:

The upper rad hose looks too long, it is probably an aftermarket, which, IMO is not a good idea with Legends - especially hoses, t-stat, fluids etc....

I understand your Legend lust, we all have it here to some degree. It can be a love/hate relationship you see - the Acura Legend, while one of the most interesting vehicles ever manufactured is prone to HG failure, which is a drag.

The good news is, this is the best Legend forum on the web and many here have repaired their existing motors or dropped new ones in to keep the Legend alive.

So just beware, Legend lust can be a pain in the wallet.

Hey guys, your really helping me out with this whole buying a car thing, I just wanted to say thanks alot for yor help and support.

Anyway i have stumbled upon another legend, this one being a 93 coupe. Problem is>.> It has an radiator leak and needs CV BOOT FOR the AXLE. Do you think i should purchase it and just have it sit in my garage while i just work until i have the time and money to fix it??? Or just keep looking and forget I even thought about purchasing it? lol

what are your take on this??

Heres a pic of the vehicle..

I would be MUCH more concerned with mechanical/service issues and the condition of the major components .... cooling system, motor, tranny, brakes, headgaskets etc. Showing pictures of cars is not going really allow anyone to assist you with these key issues.

Do yourself a big favor and get any Legend you want to buy inspected by a trustworthy shop/mechanic/dealer so that you dont by a Legend with major problems that are not noticable and that you can't afford to fix.

As some already mentioned, buying an old Legend may not be a good idea for you at this point. But good luck with your search for a car.

i bought my Legend from my brother-in-law's nephew for $2k cuz he got an 04 RL. he wanted 1700 w/o the rims. only real problem i had when i first got it was a pos battery that i replaced after a week and a tie rod. a year later i'm dancin with the overheat devil and a couple other minor problems but other than that i just run into a fuckin bunch of small problems.

p.s. i'm in school too and this shit kicks my ass at times.

id just start with a legend with NO issues what so ever... unless you plan on doing a HG job yourself dont do it.... we all dont say it just to be in the crowd... id say most of us here got on this forum just because our car was overheating.

on a side note what the heck happened drew???? got bored.... hanging out with antik too much???

Nothing happened to Drew, his parents sold the OG Legend and bought an e36 M3...which is really sick.

The Legend can be a boring car to a performance junkie.

To the Original Poster: I know what you're going through, but unless you know people don't buy it. I am lucky enough to know a good mechanic and the only advice he continues to give me is: SELL THE LEGEND.

I bought a 1992 Acura Legend L Coupe for $2,800 and I now believe I was throughly ripped off. I basically bought myself a car that needed major maintence and I think I have a seeping headgasket...

I've had the car for about two months now and I've put over $600 in repairs. First the car overheated because one of the cooling fans went out. Then I had to get the valve cover gasket replaced.

I also need to get the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) replaced and egr port cleaned out. The egr cleaning is to pass emissions. The damn car didn't pass emissions!

Beside the essential VSS and egr port cleaning I need to get more maintence repairs done! I need to repair CV boots, motor/tranny mounts, get brakes inspected and probably replace pads, and timing belt/water pump. Then on top of that my Legend might have a seeping headgasket. I'm pretty sure that the car overheated before I bought it. It has a gutted thermostat.

Also the car has major rust around the rear windshield. One part of the rust has rusted through and water can in get in the interior of the car...

So basically I spent $2,800 on the car, but it would need over $3,000 in repairs with in the next year. That's not mods and stuff it's purely essential items to keep the car in proper running order.

I am planning on selling my Legend as soon as I can. I want to look for a Honda Accord Coupe, but may wait until I can buy a newer one. I like to entertain the thought of buying a '94/'95 good condition Legend Coupe LS, but I am in no position to handle such a high maintence car. I'll just wait until I graduate college...

I am not planning to do the EGR port cleaning myself. I am getting a mechanic to do it. I do know there's a DIY for the EGR port cleaning on the forums somewhere.

^ please learn from us college legend owners, its not worth it, stick to kids cars, theyre not money pits like legends, suffer now for a properly taken care of legend later.
Definitely agree with you here. Having a Legend is great and all, but there's more important things to spend money on now. A Legend can only cause debt or stress from being broke....

dont be mislead...

i am in school, i too drive an acura legend. i was anxious like everyone else for a legend. you have to be patient. i waited 3-4 months before i found a legend in my price range. i paid 2900 for it and it runs like a rock no engine problems except that it burns oil

these cars run great when maintained, but will cause you major problems when not maintained. these cars are not toyota camrys or honda accords so they do require more maintenance, and TLC, which does mean money.

however if you're able to test drive and find a good priced legend, you're gonna wanna have it inspected. you do not want to by a legend with any cooling problems whatsoever. you may also want to find out when the last time the timing belt and water pump were done. chances are that the cars that meet the criteria of being well maintained are going to be more expensive, so beware. thats all i can say.

and even after all of that you've still got the interior and exterior. thats why my legend was 2900. ripped leather, 2nd paint job (somewhat poor paint job). even then, ive probably spent $1000 alone in tune up, filters, axles, and other misc. parts that are wear and tear that just needed replacing, but im in a good spot now and hopefully she will run for a long time.

Bro, here's my advice... Stay away from legends if your a college student. I'm in college and own a 91 coupe.. This is a dangerous equation. I'm about 3 grand in debt due to this car.. The motor on these cars is solid, but they are 12 years old at the least and you WILL find problem after problem after problem, and these problems are small little things you can ignore.. everything has to get to you somehow. All these little problems cost you.. and DON'T even get me started on gas mileage.. I get like 15 mpg, but I can take the blame for that because of my mods and the way I drive. Stick to a civic or something, best advice out there.
