I've read a couple of post that reference specs on legends that aren't even close to what the legend i own.
Now im not a 'reputable car magazine' but i own a legend & has had much track experience racing my legend.
Here's my facts per GTECH & Sacramento raceway

88 Legend Sedan 5 Speed

Mods: Cone Filter Mounted Directly on throttle body.(K&N knockoff); B&M Fuel Pressure regulator set @ 35PSI (Stock PSI)

Weight: 2995lbs (w<2gallons of gas in tank) @ Sacramento Raceway scale

0-60: 7.75seconds (As per GTECH tonite)

Fastest 1/4mi: 15.665 @ 88mph (Sacramento Raceway 2001)

1/4 mi Average (Stock) 15.8-15.9 Car is EXTREMELY consistent.

Optimum Shift Points (Per My 5 speed)
1st: 6400
2nd:6400
3rd: 6200
4th: 6400

Ive tried every combination from holding third till 6700 to shifting @ redline in 3rd. this is the fastest i can get my legend through the traps. If anyone can shed more light into getting a better E.T. I'm all ears, but i realize that not all racers want to share secrets with all & to those i respect ya.
I think my legend has acheived as much as it will ever with the mods it has now, I suppose i could throw an exhast on it, which may lower my E.T. 2/10ths. I do have new rubbers on my car for this season, so i should be able to launch at a higher RPM.

In seeing Dv8 & what his knife edging the throttle body has done, i am considering widening the throttle body while retaining the stock butterfly.

ohhh yeah. NOS is going in by June, but I'll be running a conservative 60 shot.

I have the habit of saying G1 0-60 is 7.7-8.6.

However, I didn't recall where I got 7.7 from, so I've just been saying 8.1-8.6. Maybe you had mentioned your 0-60 to me before.. hmmm...

In the May 1988 edition of Motor Trend, they recorded a 0-60 time of 7.91 seconds on an 89 LS sedan five speed.

Please read this...

Hey RicDogg,

I haven't been on the board in a LONG time but someone directed me to your post comparing our cars. I had an 89 LS coupe that went 15.6 WITH nitrous. How the hell did you get you stock legend to go 15.6 with nothin but an airfilter?

I hate to say it but, this is not possible. With a 3400 pound car, it takes about 210-220 HP to get a 15.6. With your car weighing 3000lb, It takes 185-190 HP. I remember way back when there was a guy named Alexei. He had ported heads, intake and exhaust mods. He made an estimated 200HP. I'll give you about five hp for your intake. But where the hell did the other 20 come from?????

Please, explain to us all how you did it?

I checked these sites:
http://www.maximacar.com/hp_calculator.htm
http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/quartmile.html
http://www.angelfire.com/fl/procrastination/quarter.html
http://www.boostcontroller.com/hpcalculator.html

And what I found was that you had to be making 160 or so Hp to do that. Then I found that you had to be making that much at the wheels. At the crank, you need at least 180 like I said. Sorry to burst your bubble...:(

PS

I have an 89 Chrysler Conquest and an 86 Buick T-type that is pretty quick. The Conquest could kick my G1's ass probably with the spray. The buick is not even is the same class. I have run down a C5 with it and hung door to door with a 2001 Camaro SS. Of course both of these cars have turbos and everything I buy from now one will hopefully have one.

I donated my legend because of flood damage :( but was looking for more speed anyway. I did hook up with Jose3030 a while back when I still had it so he can kinda vouch for me.

Well RicDogg,

I don't beleive it only cause the numbers don't add up. I have been into cars long enough to know that there are some cars that were built with more "attention" then others.

I have seen too many LS1 F bodies run low 13 sec times. I have even read a few articles that said they dynoed at 320 or so wheel hp. Maybe you got one of those car built by the "special" honda engineer. The one who decided to make some guys life very wonderful and added in some balanced parts and maybe a special pair of cams.

Based on the math, until I see it, I don't believe it. :(

Ps,

Most calculators calculate wheel horsepower like I said above. That means about 193.2 Hp at the crank with 15% drivetrain loss.

Anybody else ever see a "STOCK" legend add a filter and get 30 HP?

speakin on dem engineeers...

lots different in "stock" motors. and modifieds too for that matter.

Factory says compression can be anywhere between 8.8:1 to
9.2:1... Lots o Hp diff. in just that one thing.
If compression is on the tall end,
If the rods were a little long,
If the cams spec'd high end,
etc... <redundant btw
see where I'm goin?

Yep, I see exactly where you are going. If that accounts for 30 hp then everyone needs to just bump up the compression on their legend and run with the big boys. It would take more then just .4 of a point of compression to make 30 hp. If you combine all the stuff you noted, it is possible.

I still don't believe it unless I see it.

aaahhh, belief

that's what all the:
If's, commas, and the etc was for. I'm simply stating it's possible.
I believe in things that are possible without driving the space shuttle.:)

im not the one breaking out the HP calculators bro, i stated that per gtech the car dyno'd at 147hp to the wheels

im not claiming anything else kiddo

& yes i weigh 280 pounds.

im at a loss in how to make you belive that my 88 5 speed is capable of running a 15.6.

there is a Nor Cal meet on March 23rd, i believe that legends are going to be running, i can bring the timeslips there too. other than that i dunno what to tell you.

& as far as the 15.6 is concerned, im not satisfied with that time. it is slooow. christian is running 13.6 in his nos'd hybrid. im going for mid low 14's with the NOS setup.
