I'm having trouble with my drivers side rear brakes. When coming to a stop there is a grinding noise like something isnt disengaging when I release the brakes. It isn't just when braking but when starting to accelerate too.

There seems to be something like black fluid (dried now) on the outside of my rim.
Could it be my emergency brake possibly?
Just a note is that my e-brake has been used throughout its whole life when parking even though its an automatic or its not been on an incline of any kind. Now I need to get it tightened because it doesnt engage as it should.

Thanks for the info guys.

Grinding is not good. Whenever I have had grinding it has been pads that have worn down to the bone and you don't want to continue driving if that is the case.

I would jack it up, take the wheel off and see what you can see. They pads might be visible with the wheel on, I can't recall, but definitely would with the wheel off.

DO NOT GET UNDER THE CAR WITH THE WHEEL OFF UNLESS YOU HAVE IT SECURELY SUPPORTED WITH PROPERLY PLACED JACK STANDS.:)
