Has anyone tried to REPAIR their clockspring?

I've seen the DIY threads on removing the airbag, steering wheel and clockspring, so replacing it with a good one should be doable without too much pain, but I was wondering if anyone has actually pulled the little apart to find out what breaks.

Thanks!

no comments? I am curious as to what makes a $200+ part worth that much, and why it brakes.

Also, is this forum censored? I am pretty sure I called it a little {haha yep}.
Yeah it's overpriced, but it's worth the features it provides. The ribbon cable inside is about 6 feet long and can not be spliced or replaired. Once you take apart the clock spring good luck getting it back together. When I got my new one I tried to take apart my old one to fix it and make a spare, but it was very fragile and alot of the plastic would not hold together. I don't see how it could be rebuilt to be made safe and reliable.
cool, thanks for the info. Did you find out what broke in the first place? Also, what else uses the clock spring? I noticed only my radio buttons don't work.

I've never seen one, but it should also control the cruise buttons. If you would like to send me your old one I can take a look at it, I'm extremely good at fixing things so if it can be fixed I'm sure I could do it...
It's a common problem with legends. It would be the reason that the radio controls don't work, also the horn buttons won't work either
my cruise control and horns work fine, the only thing that doesn't work are the stereo control buttons. Could there be something else that is causing them not to work?

I guess it is time to pull out the stereo and examine the wiring.
Thats the way it starts. My horn quit 2 months before the rest went. I had to make a u turn one day and I heard a snap and followed by the ABS light comming on.

Air Bag, Horn Cruise, Radio controls are connectd by the clock spring. The thing is glued together and the part that breaks is a thin plastic ribbon cable thats about 6 feet long.

Logic, If you can fix it I'll pay you to fix mine. I'm good at tedious work like that. I couldn't do it. You retty much have to break it to open it. Let me know how the repair attempt goes... :)
There is a ribbion type electrical harness inside it. Like the kind used inside a computer to connect small components. It really can't be repaired.
