Hey, so I think I downgraded in years but added some luxury. I just bought a 1994 Acura Legend L to replace my 1996 2.5TL. I must say that it's been nice so far. I will post some pics and I want to do some mods. What's your guy and gal's opinion:

On the Bose system: The L didn't come with the changer (which surprised me but whatever). I was wondering if you think I should just replace the headunit with a new cd/mp3 player or try to stay stock and buy the trunk changer. I don't care either way, though I'm leaning toward the changer since it's plug n play. OR XM/Sirus and get rid of the cds. Also, some lights are out (#3, #4 on the radio selection), has anyone replaced them where can i get parts or whatnot.

Repairs: I got my new plates for the car and placed them on the floor of the car, the door closed on them and left a 3/4" gash on the interior door panel (don't ask but the plate was bent too). Has anyone repaired this before? What did anyone do to fix it (picture to come).

Transmission: It's an automatic. I was wondering if first 2 second jumps for anyone else. It's like a rocket start and the car feels almost uncomfortable with that much power in first and it kinda jaunts in shifting. Otherwise 2-3-4 is prefect and reverse is smooth too. I am going to do a tranny flush to see if that would help, just wondering if it's part of the personality of the car or a serious problem.

Sorry for the long post, thanks!

Welcome

I have a 94 L also I i keep the head unit stock and added a cd-changer in the rear. As for the shifting mine does the same but sometimes if goes smooth. From what i have heard on this board it is normal or you need to check you trans mounts. Maybe try a trans service.

post some pics and welcome.

you are in the right place

i also chose to keep my stock headunit and add a mp3 changer for a couple reasons.

1st, people are much more likely to break into a car for an aftermarket stereo than a stock tape deck.

2nd, i didn't want to lose my steering wheel controls.

the bose system definitely leaves something to be desired in the way of sound quality, but for me its good enough for now.

you can replace the bulbs behind the radio buttons. i believe you can get the bulbs from the dealer and i'm sure MikeD will be on here shortly with pics of how to do it.

for the door panel, i would look into getting a vinyl repair kit, although i have never used one personally.

transmission - pretty much all auto g2 legends have a very firm 1-2 shift but if it seems overly jerky, check out your rear tranny mount, they seem to last around 60k or so. also try the 4x tranny flush. info can be found here

Welcome

Welcome to the forums! My 91' Sedan is just as ballsie when first starting it in the morning, and then from 1st to 2nd. The fellow at Acura of Columbus (OH that is) told me that the auto in the 91-92 is different from the 93-95 which is the reason behind the hellaish low-end torque-personally though i'm not worring too much. Mine leaves a patch at 1st and 2nd and shifts beautifuly. Good luck with your Legend!

Welcome! I think you will find this place to be a great resource.

Personally I like the stock HU look... Almost anything aftermarket looks, well aftermarket.

As for the door panel, I guess I'd try the vinyl repair. There are places that do this for hire... they are usually very good. Kinda like windshield repair, they will come to you. I have no experience with it however. Worst case, keep an eye out for one at a salvage yard or on here. Check the for sale forum, there is usually someone parting out something. You might get lucky. Just make sure you get the right color. Mine is "Type F".

As already stated, 1st to 2nd is typically a hard shift. If your tranny mount is OK, that is your biggest worry.

Post some pics... nice to see another St. Louisan on here...

My Parents drive a green Avalon with gold emblems.

Again, welcome. Let me know if there is anything I can do for a local guy.

$55 minimun to get the vinyl repair done on the door. Ouch. I'm going to put down plastic over everything (including the exterior) and just not use the car.

I kinda like the idea of grabbing some new Acura rims to place on the car. I think that would look stock while giving the car an updated look. BUT that comes after I pay a few bills.

Searchin4acoupe: Cool man, I work @ UMSL and live in South City. There are a bunch of TL's out here @ UMSL and I think one other Legned Sedan that parks regularly. I got lots of pics, just need to get off my a$$ to crop and post. Regarding the Avalon, as long as your parents picked the color, you got nothing to worry about. HQ's mom's a genius, she bought a green TL new.

theres always door panels on ebay for pretty cheap

for the tranny you probly want to start with the mount and go from there. i just drain and fill my tranny fluid every 6 months and its always smooth after i change the fluid

ripping the bose crap out of my car was one of the best things i did (and most fulfilling after listening to that crap for a year and a half), some people here consider it sacreligous though so you'll get varying opinions

good luck

my legend is green, but im 23 and i only drive 20 mph when im slizzled and i dont have the gold package :)

Thanks to 'NewOwner' for this info !!!
Yep I have taken some new pics today. So I´m planning to bypass the factory radio code what I not got after I got that used radio. Today I have replaced some parts thru other radio parts, like radio buttons, switches etc. The old ones were kinda wear and in a very bad condition. Some bulbs were burnt and some microswitches were dead. But I love that radio. If you still interested I can upload the desired pics for you. Time to make a new DIY, b/c I noticed that this radio is more different than the old one. These bulbs are complete different to the old one. But the ways to replace them are always the same. -Mike
