Help doing 4x tranny flush

861 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Avarice
Ok guys, I have some questions for those who have done it.

1.) How long did you leave the 3.5 quarts of F-Type fluid in there ? Or is it even safe to add F-type fluid into our Honda tranny's?

2.) Any tips on doing this? or other added tips?

3.) Is it ok to use this type of F-type fluid?
Valvoline Type FA Tranny Fluid

4.) How noticeable of an improvement was there after doing it?

5.) How long did it take for you to do this?

6.) Where did you buy the Smart Blend additive from? I only see "Duralube" at my local autoparts store.

Unless you've got a real bad problem with your tranny, you shouldn't need to do the f-type fluid thing. If you do, only leave it in for a short time - a trip around the block for instance. As long as you use Honda fluid, you also shouldn't need the Smart blend additive. I found some on the net a while ago, o a yahoo search and you'll find it.
I don't know about this F-type stuff. I just thought you drained the tranny, ran a few quarts of tranny fluid through it, plugged it up, filled the tranny, then you were done. No? Only use Honda tranny fluid to flush it and to fill it.

As for feeling a difference, when I had my tranny flushed after I first bought the car the car shifted much more smoothly. It is definitely a worthwhile thing to do. I am going to do it every 30K miles.
1.) 3-5 trips around the block I'd say... Drive in all the gears a little.

3.) I'm sure that is fine, the point ot the F type is it has a detergent, not recomended for daily driving in a Honda but for a couple miles it will do the job.

4.) I hear it is very noticeable, I haven't done it yet but will this summer.

6.) Smart Blend is only at Napa $11.00

I have'nt drained the tranny fluid in almost 3 years. But in those 3 hears I've only put about 15k miles. I really dont have any complaints w/the tranny other then the fact that it might be dirty since the fluid has been in there for quite some time and not to mention that its usually driven in the city and not the highway.
