Help Front O2 sensor

643 Views 13 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  telafonic
Hey guys Im having trouble removing the front O2 sensor (front meaning rear but its the one that is neer the radiator.) I had to bend out all the a/c pipes just to get the socket on and when i put the rachet or the t-bar on it, it hits the bottom crossmember and doesnt sit on the sensor thus making it impossible to remove the sensor.

Try going from the top with 3/8" drive socket and ratchet and pipe .... thats all i used. You could easily do this repair in a parking lot its soo easy. Its kinda shooting blind, but if you know where it is the job is much easier. Make sure to use antiseize on those threads! Also, if you run the car for a lil while to heat up the manifolds, it makes removal easier. But be very careful! Hot parts burn skin fast.
Thanx for that ill try getting it from the top then. I think ill have to remove the Fans and readjust all the a/c pipes then.
yea i tried from the bottm and useing a speacial socket and it still did'nt work.
what worked was a 7/8 deep socket, 3/8's drive and a pole...smacked the $h!t out of myself but i got it off....
Ill go try that now, i got a 17mm deep socket that i have cut a slit into and a 1/2 inch ratchet. I think ill have to use my costom 3 foot pole to take it off then.
Done! i got it out and replaced it. I got it off with minimal effort, no pipe was needed (maybe because im 16 and my hands are small so i can get them into those tight spaces. The car is running so sweet now. it truly feels so much better, more responce, better fuel economy damn i should have replaced them a loooong time ago. Thanx for the help guys.
I think I need to replace mine because my PGM-FI light is coming on. Are you going to replace both? I heard if one is going, the other one is soon to follow...

Yeah i replaced one about a week before this one. No more light for Me :D
Looks like I might have to do that. Did it really make a noticeable difference? I just bought this car so I dont know if this is how it should drive. I dont notice any driveability issues. I just need to prioritize what I need to fix first. I am trying to decide between tires or my speedo/odometer...
Yeah there is a difference, its like having an extra 5hp and less stubleing on hard acceleration. Whats wrong with your speedo, it may be a quick fix and you can spend money on a new set of tyers.
If u need help i use MSN messenger [email protected] or you can just email me if ur having trouble.

The needle does not move either does the odometer or tripometer...
Just remove the fonr beezle and have a look at the cable behind the speedo. but before that check that the cable is sitting in the transmition correctly.
Kicker, this is a fairly common problem on G1's. Like posted above, check the cable first, most likely the lower cable is bad. There are two pieces, one goes into the gauge cluster, the other goes into the tranny and they meet just in front of the firewall. Unscrew the nut and twist the cable with a screwdiver just a little bit. If you feel tension, then the lower cable is probably good. If it just spins, it needs to be replaced.
