The ONLY buffer that should be used is a random orbital buffer (2600 rpm). This type of buffer has a cam that continuously various the orbit or circular path of the buffer head so as not to concentrate in any one area for very long. A regular circular buffer wheel can act like a grinder/sander and burn through the finish very quickly. Using a random orbital buffer is very easy to do. After washing and drying, apply a good cleaner/wax like Maguiars to the clean pad and apply to the flat surfaces of the cars. No need to PUSH down hard on the buffer (that will actually inhibit its performance), let it do the work and just keep the buffer moving around to cover all of the areas. Do not hold in one place. Any stains or problem areas should be handled manually before using the buffer. You can also use just a dedicated cleaner compound (not rubbing compound or polishing compound...they are abrasives and need someone who knows what they are doing). You can remove manually after haze formation and drying or with the buffer..manually is actually easier. Then change buffer pad (use a good pad...makes a big difference) and apply the wax you like in similar fashion....remove manually or with the buffer, cleaning pad often.
