how do you change your oil?

hi

i have an argument with my buddy. he said that the best way to change the oil is when the engine is warm, therefore you can get more dirt out of the engine. i usually change my oil while the car is cold (at least overnight) cause leaving the car overnight will let all the oil drip to the bottom and all of them will come out (in my opinion)

which way do you change your oil and why?

i change my oil when my engine is at normal running temperature (of course the engine is off). I'm just following directions because that's what the manual says. when the oil is warm and when you drain it, it does get all the unwanted stuff out.
i try to have the car as hot as possible i drive it around for awhile becuase it will take out more containiments
I change it when it is hot (normal running temp) but I let it sit for about 10 minutes so all the oil will drain into the oil pan. Then as mentioned above you will get all the junk out with it.
Same as others, warm the car to normal driving temp.
Also jack up the passenger side so that more oil at the bottom of the pan gets out.
Excellent sig spiff. I wonder how many people actually get it!!

Some people don't get it, but these are the same people who can't figure out what personalized license plates mean either. ;)
Take a hint from the dealership when people take their cars in its still hot, actually most places change the oil when its still hot/warm otherwise people will be waiting for hours just for an oil change.;)
