Me and my friend were talking about ground controls and coilovers, and we were wondering how coilovers work. i know that you can adjust them (raise or lower) but how...what makes it raise or lower??if there is anybody that can help me out with this i would be greatful....thanx

Mike :)

the spring rides on the perch (gold in photo) which is adjustable usually with a spanner wrench. the outside of the strut body is threaded so you can spin the perch up or down thus lowering/raising your ride.

Yea. What Buk showed is an image off a real coil-over system (where the threads are in the shock body). As for the GC system, it's just a threaded sleeve with a liniar (or semi-liniar for GC) rate spring. This is good and all if you know how to take advantage of it (track, strip), but ride does tend to suffer. Altho, one funny thing is at work, our shop car (94 Accord LX) is sitting on a set of cheap AeroSpeed coil over sleeves set at stock hight with stock shock and it rides ok. Lower it, it might get rough and harsh, but it's nice this way. Sporty, stiff and very responsive. Funny, because people always rip on these cheap coilover sleeves for having a harsh ride.
