How many of us here, are true Legend Enthusiasts??

Let me just start off by stating this: whatever anyone does in his or her life is their own prerogative, and secondly please understand that I'm not knocking anyone here for doing what they need to do, or have done!

But…I've noticed a few people I know (whom I thought to be die-hard legend-heads) simply give up on the car, as soon as there's a major (such as a BHG and, sometimes not so serious) problem with their vehicles.

Some have even switched brands with bitter hearts/tongues toward the car! Now, I'm not saying that there aren't any legitimate reasons why some people get rid of their legends!
Reasons like being financially in need at the time, or maybe, a need for something bigger to suit your growing family's needs, is a few legit reasons to mention. I'm not referring to those types of dire situations!
I'm speaking of those of us, who have the means to remedy the problem/s that may surface, but just choose to move on.

Just wanted to throw it out there, to see how many of us here, would stay with these cars inspite of the imperfections that sometimes come with owning a 13-year+ car!? For me, it's Legend forever baby! I will be owning a legend to the day they stop making parts for this b!tchh. Do I like other cars out there? Hell yea! But the ledg will be there right alone-side the others! :D

What's your opinion on this??

I love the car, since i was in high school, and i've always wanted one. just like you stated i like other cars out there, especially the nissan maxima, which i now on my third one.

but the Legend was alway a car that i loved, the stance, and low profile of the car. as for commitment, how's this, its now approaching the second year of me owning this 94 coupe that i have.

the story about this, is that my girl was pregnant with twins and when this car came along i had a decision to make. i had reservations to get the car, and in the same night i had to fly out to Virginia to pick up the car, she went into labor. long story short she told me to go ahead and do what i had to do. so after my girls were born, i headed home to prepare to catch my flight to Richmond, VA. how's that for a Legend head, no money was exchanged other than the ticket reservations. i promissed to buy the car and felt that i had an obligation to follow through.

been a member of the forum since i was 13 and I have been in love with the legend since i was 11. I am now 18, if that isnt commitment i dont know what is :p

I will say a good majority of people who leave the legend only come back to it years later after their "upgrade" didnt turn out so well (more problems then expected.) But tastes change and so do positions. Just because someone may not own a legend, doesnt mean they arent an enthusiast. With the ever decreasing value of the car as a whole, it sometimes doesnt warrant the upkeeping it seeks.

we all know who this thread is about.... loving the legend and owning the legend is different.... i bet you there are hundreds of senior men out there who are obsessed with porche but dont own one because it just isnt financially smart for them. give the guy some credit. he still is hanging around the forum because he knows he misses it.
I think there must be a little misunderstanding here!
Let me say this again! This thread was not meant to target anyone here!
OG (Acural53) summed it up best, with his header below!
This thread was intended to provoke individual feelings and sentiments about this car, that has captured all of our hearts. Got mine for sure!

This is a thought provoking thread, for sure.....
Also, I think that it's unfair to the rest of the die-hard Legend enthusiast here, for anyone to start naming, who they think are the true enthusiast!
Why must there always be exclusion among us? Everyone here knows within their own hearts, their level of love for this car. I personally don't need anyone else vouging for me!
My two cents!!!

"Continue the love, stop the hate!"

i think the value of these cars is what we hold it to be as. if it wasn't for true legend lovers, how could these cars still pull 10k in the used car market. the day we no longer value the car is the day it aint worth shit to anyone. we are the only one's keeping the Legend alive. my .02

die-hard

If you know me, you know that I am a TRUE Legend Enthusiast.

I may even be obsessed to an extent, my next car will definitely be a 6SP LS coupe. I will never in a million years sell my Legend. Mostly because for what I paid, and what I've put into it...its not worth it to ever sell anyway.

...Check under my signature and click the link "Legend Rejuvenation".

I paid $7,400 for my 14yr old Legend @ 121,000 miles. I've put enough $ in my motor to pay for another Legend on just all around preventative maintenance. I didn't have a BHG but I sure as hell replaced my headgaskets, heads, valve covers, and all that other stuff on the top end just to be good to go. I have custom taillights that cost about as much as K-Sport coilovers. I've put about $13,000 in my Legend in just two years!

I might even get a third Legend before I get a BMW.

I currently own about 25 different sales catalogs/brochures for the Acura Legend of all years in all shapes and sizes that I have collected. I've had more JDM parts in my possession then most JDM sellers get in half a year. I am about to post my rides immaculate records that I finally finished compiling onto a spreadsheet. I've also got a parts closet that keeps growing. :2cool:

The overall style of the Legend is classic and timeless. There are not many body styles/stance and interior setups that stick out in the refined and distinguished way that the Legend's does. It's truly in a class of its own.

I have loved the Legend since I was in middle school at probably the age of 12 and all through high school I wanted a coupe and when I was away in Utah...its all I thought about until I finally got out...and now, its still all I really think about or work on minus a few other things. My friends think I'm nuts and thats cool too. :giggle:

I am Legend.

Well I know that I am not an OG by any means and the length of time that I have owned a Legend has not been several years nor is it a family thing but I can say that I have endured about EVERY issue you can have with these cars including the two different types of BHG's. I have cursed it and complained about each (I own two) of them and have pulled the engines on each atleast twice so yeah I would say I am a die hard owner. Ive driven other cars and to say simply I love my coupe(s). But I have got to do something about this damn jerking motion when my clutch engages lol.

This is a thought provoking thread, for sure.....

From my perspective, I am probably a bit older than many of you. I can say that when I bought my Legend in 1993, I squeezed into it because I had a burr up my ass and had to have one, and you all know what that means. I was single (between marriages), turning 40, had worked very hard, and wanted to treat myself to this particular car. The 1st year, I choked on it a bit in payments and insurance. After that, the car became gradually much more affordable to drive and maintain. No matter what, thru the years, I always made sure I did all scheduled and some preventive maintenence, and have all the receipts to prove it. Sure, a few things popped I didn't plan on (upper radiator tank, door actuator, ignition switch, etc). Same stuff I hear members here squawk about and have to fix. On the other hand, I have avoided some of the more serious issues, and that sure doesn't mean they won't or can't happen to me-no signs of BHG syndrome so far, for example. It stays garaged and I don't drive it daily. That makes a huge difference in parts wearing out faster. There is a maintenence cost factor that over time will turn many off and those folks will 'fold thier cards' and move on. I do not know if or when I will hit that wall, but so far, I haven't. I agree with many comments that the styling and unique characteristics of this car in a category of it's own. Yes, it has it's own peculiararities and quirks. Is it the best car I've ever owned? No. (My Lexus LS400 is quickly claiming that spot). I've had Vettes, a 911 Porsche, all kinds of muscle cars over the years. I love cars, it is my hobby. But the Legend does cast a certain spell (for lack of a better word) over it's owners. I truly understad why many of you are willing to hold on to your cars to the very end, and others say F-it, I've had enough for whatever reason. It's really a "to each their own" thing.

But I can say I have NEVER held onto a car this long in my life-so that says quite a lot for the Legend.

You sir, are OG status!

I wish I could have bought my ride in 1993.

There's something about these cars that gets in your blood and won't go away but a lot of it has to do with this place. I've been to a lot of other car forums but there's no place quite like A-L.com.

Fuck. I feel like Dorothy.

I feel the same way..

this is the shit that causes arguments, and a MOD of all people chose to take your tread in a different direction, then when it gets out of hand he will lock it after his final words. go figure, no wonder this place if full of hate lately. Thats my .02
:uhh:

I love my car. It is part of my life, and even part of my identity.

There is not car I'd rather have, and no amount of money that would pry my Legend out of my hands.
Well said!

I'm with ya Matt, there's no way my sedan is going anywhere.

If I'm lucky this kensojuvenated engine will last to a 4cruizn amount of miles.

...and then maybe a new engine. :D

If you're an enthusiast, make yourself known. Contribute to the community, We're all Members or Owners. If you're an enthusiast, make it known.

That's the words of an Enthusiast to me (though some of it is sentimental value on his particular car). His actions, just like BlingTing and the others i mentioned, back up what he says. But these are the people i've witness come in, and prove their enthusiasm...

When it comes to enthusiasm, pretty much "money is no object" I think i about quintupled the purchase price, just in maintenence on my car. bought at 1500 and put close to 8 grand into the car. 3 transmissions, headgaskets, differential, tie rods...the list goes on and on. I didn't even touch cosmetic mods. If you want to get into mods and cosmetics, total it could be upwards of 10 or 11k. I mean it's not fun to play the numbers game because it's about the love of the car, not quantifying your love with numbers. There's people who've put 20 and even 30k into their cars. That's what i mean by enthusiasm. It's okay to want to jump ship every now and a again. You might want a new wife every now and again .

If i haven't seen you around, i don't know you and thereby i can't have your name at the top of my mind right away.

EDIT:

And that's what i mean, I pissed off a lot of people who swore and down they were enthusiasts. The Problem is, the minute an opportunity arose they (the self proclaimed enthusiasts) bounced and never looked back. I've been here long enough to spot the real "Legend Enthusiasts." There's some people who still look back on the car fondly, but they'll never get back into the car...that's not an enthusiast TO ME (i didn't say to you, but to me).

The reason I make note of it is because there's people who love the car, stick with it, or try to get back into it. And there's people who love it because they've made it theirs. They loved the car right up til the end. However, once it's used up, they go on to the next car and love it just as much. Two different types of "love" for the car there...

There's "Car love" and there's "Legend Love"

Just depends on you, which one you are.

That is insightful Ivan.

Thanks Ivan.

Yeah, my Legend has emptied my bank several times. Never once did I feel bad.

I actually bought my SLR almost entirely for taking pictures of my Legend.

Every person who gets a new car I encourage to buy a Legend.

If I could, I would do an SPCA style Legend thing and have everyone I could find that needed a good home. Take it in, and fix it up. Just never get rid of it. Lol.

...damn insurance would kill me though.

Dude thats great, I busted out laughing reading that...so true.

My friends think I am kind of . . . excessive!

I just bought a Canon EOS400D/Rebel XTi dSLR, mainly for pictures of the Gobstopper. "You know this maaan!"

If there's anyone who I'd categorize as die-hard, it's this guy right here. How many people can say they've been a moderator (several years running) on a forum dedicated to a vehicle they didn't even own? :)
Nick is die-hardest!

Old topic

I actually asked this question a long time ago...

There are VERY FEW real Enthusiasts. I've said this MANY times. I pissed off a lot of people by saying it too, but i don't care.

I reiterate, there are VERY FEW True Legend Enthusiasts. the Phrase Legend Enthusiast is over used, and i am very VERY reserved on whom i label a Legend Enthusiast.

I'll say "owners" or "drivers" or "Members"...there's only a Handful of us right now...

Right now i can think of maybe 6 or 7 off the top of my head other than Me (what makes you an enthusiast is akin to what makes MG guys enthusiasts...the love of the car, even its quirks and flaws, Going through MAJOR hardships with the car and still coming back for more.)

Others have given up, or go through a honeymoon phase with their cars. They'll step to TLs (a vigor)or BMWs, Lexus, or Infinitis.

Thanks, Ivan. I am honored that you think that of me. I certainly like to think of myself as a true believer. Guess the litmus test was when I bought the '06 Civic and came back. Yeah, it was a nice car and fun to drive but it just wasn't a Legend.

There's something about these cars that gets in your blood and won't go away but a lot of it has to do with this place. I've been to a lot of other car forums but there's no place quite like A-L.com.

Well said, same reason I joined this forum, and same reason I haven't given up up on this car. This car is legendary and in my blood, it's not going anywhere. 271,000 miles or not, it's just going to keep going. Veteran members are defintely an inspiration to me. and yes this forum is great one.

I like the legend a lot. I haev collected many friends an conversation with it.
Becasue of that it will be hard to get rid of. When a car that is a marque and can intruige even a class room full of 8 and 9 year olds, you know it's car with genuine soul. I know I sound chessy but its true from 9-90 year olds the legend speaks and your average cars wont do that.

Wheather you guys consider me A TRUE entusiast or not Is up to you

MY First Car was a Legend (G1 sedan) 2000-2004
My Second Car was a Legend (G1 coupe) 2004-2007
MY Third Car Is a Legend (G2 coupe) 2006- Presently
My Fourth Car Is a BMW (I regreat buying this car I shouda coulda got a Legend or fixed my second Legend)

But theres nothing I can do Its all said and done now. Yes I will admit my second legend was a G1 coupe I had Problem after Problem I even removed the entire dashboard myself to change the heater core "wasnt easy" I spent well over $4000 In repairs and more money In cosmetics Only to realize that I had an alligator In my garage. So Yes I gave up I was frustated I was angry I Donated my legend to charity because It ran so bad I couldnt sell It. The reason I purchased a bwm I just wanted something different. Im not changing brands. PLUS THEY LOOK GOOD TOGETHER. :beerchug:

I think Its Impossible to judge who Is a true enthusiast and who Is not there Are to many variables In life that dictate what choices we make and why we make them.

Also I want to say this about this forum A-L.com I am I member of a few forums and this forum Is by far one of the most active, enformitave, and Illistrative forums EVER!

THE TRUST IS WE ARE ALL TRUE ACURA LEGEND ENTHUSIATIST.

And sir, the reason this place was/is full of hate is because people chose to make it full of hate. I made no bones about it being "my personal opinion" and that it's liable to offend some people. The thread asked how many, i gave a number of the ones that popped in my head at the time.

It's spelled out clear as day. You can just call me a prick and think less of me, i don't mind, but it's just my opinion.

It's an opinion forged from
14 years of lust,
10 years of observation,
9 years of participation,
~6 years of moderation,
4 years of ownership
and
1 year of exile.

You're all family. Legend Community is Family. With that said, however, I've seen a lot of these guys come and go.They get the car, get REALLY excited, get enamored, run into a snag (common problems most times) and BOOM, they're gone. That's why i'm reserved about Legend Enthusiasts.

With that said, I've seen some of the new guys grow into LE-Trainees (lol, jk) and then into Actual LEs. It's fascinating when you have a Legend Lover For Life. When you know they'll be always there to help out the n00bs.

Twice I have been told and encouraged to get rid of the car, bribed with even another Legend. And still I fight.

I love my car. It is part of my life, and even part of my identity.

There is not car I'd rather have, and no amount of money that would pry my Legend out of my hands.
I couldn't have said it better. I have faced the same situation where my parents told me to get rid of my G1 because it doesn't have any airbags and it is getting on in years. I was offered a G2. Now I may have thought about the idea of havinga G2 for a while, but then I thought, how could I possibly let my Legend go, it is mine and nobody elses.

I go through withdrawal when my wife drives my car!:giggle:
You get withdrawals too :giggle:

Owning a Legend has always been part of my dream, and I am living it...
:)
It is nice to live the dream.

Well all I can say is that I am dedicated. I try and help out where I can on the forum, however so much of my time has been occupied over the last year or so it is quite hard. As previously said only you know if you are an enthusiast or not and everybody has different views of what an enthusiast is.
For me there are enthusiasts and there are Legend enthusiasts. A Legend enthusiast:
- Hates to see a Legend that has been damaged
- Will never sell his or her Legend because of something that has gone wrong or because of the potential problems which could arise
- Get's excited when another Legend goes past
- Will bore friends and family to death with the uniqueness and innovativeness Honda/Acura used when making these cars (To the point where people have suggested I see a doctor :nutkick: )
- Will look at buying another Legend when they already have more Legends than fingers
- Still get excited by a car which may have potential BHG or A/T issues

I don't know if any other car does this to people. (I assume there are others out there that have similar effects) However if you have been genuinely been bitten by the Legend bug you will be devoted for life.
I know after driving my Sister's Prelude (which is a very fun car to drive) or riding in My Uncles Audi S4 (blk on blk) or my Nanna's 540i BMW (blk on blk) I still get excited about getting back in my Legend. Don;t ask me how it works, I know my Uncle who has the S4 certainly can't understand how a car approaching 20 years old can raise my heart beat and stimulate my senses.

The Legend is not for everyone, but it is certainly for me and will continue to be apart of me for as long as I live.

Love the Legend.

EDIT: A Legend enthusiast spends over 2 hours reading through every post through 7 pages while eating his genuine 'A' cookies from the inside of the glass. ROFL.

Ha, i think you guys got it all wrong...

I have a Volvo right now (i'm trapped in it  )...I'm not saying you can't own a different car and still be an enthusiast...

Hell the FIRST person that came to mind has a BMW 645i as another car. but he treats his Legends as well or even better than his Bimmer. He has the money to get whatever he wants. but he consistently has his two GSs by his side.

I said that's how i feel about a Legend enthusiast. Not exactly what makes YOU feel if you're an enthusiast or not.

If you feel you're an enthusiast, you can be an enthusiast...doesn't matter what i think...especially if you feel as though you're an enthusiast. If you're an enthusiast continuing being that enthusiast.

Show your face here more, continue to show your love.

If i didn't mention you, it's probably because i don't know you and your story OR you don't participate here enough for me to notice you. I don't know your story, and i don't know your history.

If you noticed, the ones i listed are pretty active or have been around the Legend Community as long or longer than me (about 10 years).

If you're an enthusiast, make yourself known. Contribute to the community, We're all Members or Owners. If you're an enthusiast, make it known.

got ya
i might not post like a whore but, but i'm a lover of the car more than you know. before i even got my first Legend i had its sibling back in 94, when i bought my first car,88 Sterling 825S, same as a G1.

these cars are timeless, and i learn something new about it every day. i now know enough to help out other noob,s if someone knows more than me, i keep my .02 to myself.

thats why i'm not known here, plus i stay out of the bullshit bickerings that seem to fuel this place lately. when i first joined this is a totally different place. any now enough about me, i want to hear more cases, of true Legend lovers

Nice thread!!! I honestly thought I was crazy for the amount of work and effort I put into my Legend. lol I kept my first one since 04 and just recently sold it for scrap since it literally had no parts, (completely gutted).lol Now I'm trying to convince myself I'm not losing it for doing engine swaps and trans swaps on my current G1, being that it has it's share of rust. Oh, well, if I get another G1 I'll know exactly how everything is built. lol

I recently had the oppurtunity to get an E34 535i (dream car for almost 10 years) but decided to keep my G1 instead. Next thing I know I see the exact car a while later at a car wash, and haven't regreted my decision once.
