i know our legends run forever, but just in case the one i'm looking at doesn't, i need a figure. i'm guessing $4K. close? it'd be on a type 2 engine, basically a 94 ls coupe (6-speed). it has 140K miles on it, so i want to make sure i have enough cash to do work to it. thanks andrew

I somehow deleted my link to the place I got my used tranny. They had three of four at the time. I had to replace mine and it cost me a wopping 350 bucks! That is not a typo! 90,000 miles and I got it shipped from cali to wyo for 100.00. Local Honda dealer put it in and the whole thing cost me with a new tranny mount a tad over a grand. That's tranny, installation, and mount. I've had no problems since then. Look around and you'll find one no prob.

I've been checking around and the rebuilds cost from 2500 to 3000. Getting a Type II motor is anywhere between 800 and 1500 and installing it i got quotes from 500-1200. I've shopped around quite a bit and going to probably doing the Type II conversion towards the end of summer. Just hope I have enough $$ saved up for the job :D

Many folks suggest getting lower mileage used parts over rebuilt. The rebuilt ones may contain parts which are not as good as OEM. With a used, you get Honda OEM quality.

You are absolutely right.
It is better to find a low mileage combo, vs rebuilding...you never know what you are getting, UNLESS you have a HOT SHOT mech with a 3 year wty.

I did the conversion, and this included motor mounts, tranny mounts, 90k service, seals, and a few other odds and ends (50k Type II motor/tranny :D) and I walked out the door at $4000. Parts, Labor and Tax..
