i want to paint the chrome plated part in the front to match the body color ... like the GS/LS coupe....anyone have done it and can give me some advice on how to do this ?....do i just leave the chrome plated part on or do i sand it out ? what type of primer, paint and clear coat should i use ??

In order to paint over the chrome plating, you are going to have to sand it until it is dull. Any gloss will not adhere paint. Then you will need an etching primer followed by primer/filler then topcoat and clear. The long-term results of painting over a plated piece is only fair-good, particularly the hood grille surround which is constantly "sandblasted" by bugs/debris. The best method would be to remove all of the plating then refinish as a plastic part. If a surround is available unplated, I would opt to buy it.
