Not long ago (about two months) I did a motor swap with what was supposed to be a 97,000 mile motor we bought from a used motor place. I'm beginning to believe it wasn't.
Anyway, a few weeks ago it started smoking white, or at least it looked white. It would smoke really bad for a few minutes after idling for awhile, then would stop. It did this only twice. So we were going to figure something out for a HG replacement, but a few days ago it started smoking blue. Whenever I'm stopped, idling and I start to accelerate from a stop, it smokes a lot of blue smoke. So I was thinking either piston rings or something with my valves.
Last night I took the cylinder head cover off and was going to take a look at the valves but when I went to remove the bolts on the bearing cap, I found one wasn't even hand tight, and two bolts had been over-torqued and snapped off inside. I could pull them out of the hole and there's only about a 1/4-1/2" of thread on them.
Sorry about the blurryness, mom doesn't know how to use the macro.
All of this should be under warranty (If it does have a BHG/bad piston rings/whatever else is wrong) as long as it hasn't overheated in my posession, but they normally just give you another engine to swap out with, and then I'll end up paying my mechanic another $500 for that swap. And on a side note, I know they install those silver-nickel tabs, does anyone know where they usually put those?
So I guess I'm just curious as to what you all would do. I love this car, and after putting so much work into it, I don't want to sell, but if that's the best option, let me know.
Thanks in advance!
::EDIT:: So let's say I just do another motor swap, what would need to be changed in order to upgrade to the 2.7L?
