Interior Bulb Upgrade - Finally found bulbs!

For all of you that are interested in upgrading your interior lighting I finally found bulbs that work. I tried LED's but didn't like the blueish tint at all and all of the "Xenon" bulbs I found (like Raybig) were rated at least 10W and $9 each. Can't do 10W since I didn't want to roast my harness and melt the lenses and the price was rediculous.

I found this site http://autolumination.com and ordered 7 31mm 3022 festoon bulbs and 2 74's for my dome, map, door and footwell lights. Installed them last night and they are exactly what I was looking for - very bright, white light and they're only 5W! (OEM spec). The glass on these bulbs is blue but when on they are definately white - almost a halogen type of light like you see on the newer cars.

So, if you want a nice lighting upgrade for around $12 I recommend these.

Next on the list is maybe doing the 74's in the dash (heater/ac vent buttons, etc.) They have multiple colors available. I'm thinking of playing around with red/amber for the buttons.

hey brooklyn check my post and I think they are there, but here it is again, this is for my L sedan I don't have a gs or a coupe but most of it should be the same for sedans anyways...

-front door: 3022 and 3423 festoon
-rear door: 3022 and 3423 festoon
-font spot light: 194\168
-front reading: 194\168
-rear reading: 3022 festoon
-trunk: 3022 and 3423 festoon
-glove compartment: 3022 festoon
-visor: it is an extremely tiny festoon, I have no clue the type and I forget the measurement...I was hoping someone might know so I was gonna ask, regardless I don't think they make colored ones so small...I am trying to find a way around changing the bulb, like that blue saran wrap, there is a post on it
-dome: 3022 festoon
-3rd brake: 1156 according to sylvania...
-footwells: 74

just a note on the festoons, I have 31mm x 10mm and they do not fit in the dome lights, and I assume the glovebox, although I am not sure, they do fit in the doors panels, and the trunk, BUT keep in mind these were LED ones from superbrightleds.com so they are slightly different from incandescent (the middle is fatter) although thinking back I think it's metal connectors on the ends were too big but I have heard of people bending the connectors I just didn't want to...hope that helps

5spdcoupe do you have climate control or not? I do not have climate control, but if you do look at mikeD's pics here: http://www.acura-legend.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31019&highlight=gauge+lights and try to determine from that. For the non-climate control you would need 4 74 bulbs to change them all...2 for the people (top and bottom) and 2 for the levels (hot or cold, and how hard it blows, assuming you even want to do that). If you are also replacing the LEDs you will need 8 in the a\c unit, and 1 for cruise control, and 1 for rear defroster so 10 total LEDs. Buttons like the moonroof open button or close buttons (where it has a dim white light lighting up the writing) use some wierd tiny bulb...again mikeD has posted pics in that thread under the label for all switches. I also do not know what type this is, or where it might be found...again I makeshift solution will have to be used, such as painting the sign blue or tinting it someway...I doubt they make those bulbs colored....

hope that helps you two out

if it helps you, look at mikeD's pics of the auto climate control, from what I can see the clock is the same thing, so however you change the clock is how you change the climate control...I could get you pics of what the bare clock looks like, but like I said it's kind of hard for me to tell what lights it up, as it does not look like a traditional bulb, perhaps tinting it might do the trick. I searched some accord articles at SHO and found only 6th gen help and the 6th gen accord you just replaced a bulb, and it lit the background not the numbers like ours...5th gens lit the numbers not the background, so if you can find something on that it would help you out alot, I am going to check HS because I am pretty interested in this portion too, I'm just focusing on other portions now....the only thing I found that could be useful is the fact that the clock may be lit up by a wierd type of led, it looks like a bulb, but is really a sort of spread out led instead of a pointed one...also because these bulbs are probably only available from honda, and do not come in color options, it means you might start thinking of a way around just replacing a bulb...like I said perhaps tinting it...OR you could replace whatever is there with leds...but that might be hard ebcause you need to find the correct brightness and viewing angle and a good resistor etc etc...it might involve something like retrofitting an led, I have a good info document on that, it seems most accord owners did their dash that way instead of just replacing bulbs...

hey 2g what is the difference between the 194 and the 168 sizes. or are they the same? you said those are for the front dome and reading lights. where are they on that site??

#34 ·
i bought the wrong ones- i got the regular bulbs instead of the xenon ones so i am gonna send me back and get the right ones this time. how many of the 74's do you think i should get to replace all of them??

#35 ·
also, how do i remove the front dome light cover?? i feel like i am gonna break it... i broke the cover for the 74 on the passenger footwell... i dont wanna break anymore!!

^Use the edit to add those thoughts so you don't flood it with new questions all separate . ;)

Haha...well i have a g1 so whatever i told you would be mostly useless.

i kinda see the same thing in the console shift indicator-- am i the only one?? i just put the 74 in and it looks kinda green. maybe i should go with red throughout... i think i will have the guy send me a red one to see how it looks...

Hey guys sorry I've been off for awhile, but my mouse decided to stop working for some reason, like the driver for it got erased? and I haven't fixed it and thats really annoying and it's hard to use my computer...also I've been really sick forawhile here...

Legendary - yeah 194 is the same as 168 those are just the most common name(s) for that bulb, I think he has it under 194 wedge or something close, I bought I think like 6 incandescent 74 bulbs, for use (I actually bought 7 but one is a superwhite to test out the color difference) 4 go in my a\c control and 1 in my change drawer\ash tray and 1 in my shifter lights since I'm auto. but aren't you a climate control so your may be different then mine, and from mikeD's pics I found, it looks substantially different. I also bought like 3 led 74 type bulbs from superbright if it makes a different, one for my footwell, one for my ignition ring and one for my cigarette lighter ring. There is a little place on the cover where you can put a flat head screwdriver and then just pry, I know it was kind of scary doing mine, cause it did feel so flimsy, I think i actually worked my way around to the thin part and it just like popped out, which kind of scared me, if you want a visual I think the owners manual tell you how to take it out so you can replace the bulbs. just take your time with it it will come...Also the silver xenon bulb is more for like clear corners and stuff so you can't see the blue inside the lens, so it won't refract all around, like on cars with blue headlights how their headlights are all blue some people don't like that, and they buy those silver bulbs for the corner so it still shines blue, but when parked and stuff the lens is just clear it doens't reflect the blue bulb thus making it look blue everywhere I bought some of the non silver ones to test...which I still have to do as soon as my order from superbright comes in...

Shapps- I haven't gotten to that point in my project yet, but what I bet it is is that there are these strips of tinting in there stock, and maybe the blue is not strong enough to cut through the green tint, you may have to remove that so that it can shine blue, I have a strip like this in my a\c control, but I don't know how big a deal it is that I remove it, I'm gonna ask klein if he did his, or maybe I'll play with mine and if it's not too hard I'll just take it out...but at any rate I et you have a tint strip in there, or maybe just like little tint squares (I have those too in my a\c control) so you may need to remove those...

Perzian maybe yeah just send that back, my bulbs are a little funky in shape, but not really a big deal and they are fully colored....

and here is a note to all the superwite festoon bulbs on autolumination, are NOT 5w they are 10w, thats double the stock wattage, and trust me those bulbs can get hot...the blue festoon bulbs are 5w which is wierd but who knwos maybe he gets them from two places, he told me they were both 5w but I got my light yesterday, and it is clearly stamped 12v10w on the superwhites, so who knows what I will do with those...but I sure am glad I bought both blue and superwhite :) I can't tell what the superwhite 194 bulbs are but perhaps those are not 5w either, they don't say, so maybe they are...I just didn't want anyone buying the superwhite festoons and thinking they are getting 5 w but end up getting 10w...

hey 2g-- i accidently ordered the plain white ones and they were stamped 10 watts but he told me via email that they were 5watts. you might want to email him and make sure of the wattage before you count em out- and let me know what he says!! i was gonna order a few led's for my auto climate control, but i have no idea how to replace those bulbs!! how did klein and mike do it??

oh, and if you wasted your money on the wrong product, maybe you should have read what you were buying before ordering. did you ask the guy you bought them from if he would refund?? you dont hafta be a jackass about it. if 18 bucks is gonna break you then get an 89 civic!!

Yikes stalker...i think that was a bit uncalled for. You were ultimately the person who actually bought the bulbs, you could have easily done your own research if $18 is that much money to you.

i just received my bulbs and the 31mm festoon bulbs have stamped on them 12v10w. however, i checked the technical data on their website and this is what i found...

Bulb #: 3022 3175
Voltage: 12-14 volts
Power: 3 watts
Current: .25 amps
Base : S7 (T2 1/4)
Globe: 5/16" dia (7mm)
Overall height: 1-1/4" (31mm)
Description:Single Filament, Festoon Base

...so i'm a bit confused!? hopefully the info on the bulbs is wrong and they're actually 12v3w!
