Intermitant Headlight Problem

1905 Views 18 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Mckenzie93
Hey Everyone,
Its been a while since I posted here as I have been super busy trying to finish up my uinversity degree in good time.

I am having a problem with my headlights that I find very strange. Sometimes without any reason, the headlights will turn off while I'm driving. Then maybe two minutes later they may come back on, or maybe they wont come back on until next time I drive. It is very random and spurattic, somewhat dangerous and leaving me worried of a very expensive electrical problem diagnosis. I am hoping it is just a relay or something.

Any ideas?? :(

Thanks!

-Cole

PS: Check the sig for a pic of the new Work Termis 18s with the Koni Sport Kit...new as of last spring. :D

I assume you don't have HIDs, so I would have to say it's the headlight relay under the hood or a bulb issue.
maybe the bulbs burned out, but the filaments still are bumping into each other causing the lights to turn on and off??
Yeah no HIDs for me. Acura parts dept. seems to think its the day time running relay box. As well, it is both headlights going on and off at the same time, so I'm not sure if burnt out bulbs could be doing it simultaneously.

Does anyone know how hard it is to replace or get to this relay?
it's the relay

I had the same problem; the fix is to buy a headlight relay (I got mine from the dealer for under 30$) and replace.
It is under the dash correct? Do I need to remove any panels or anything or is it just a straight forward swap?
i believe it is in the relay box under the hood

when i get back in about an hour ill try to find mikeds post about that lil relay box, where he said what each relay did
The location is in the fuse box in the engine compartment (behind battery). Look at the map underneath the fuse box cover for the exact relay location. Just pull it out and replace with a new one.

:werd: That's the relay you are looking for.
Hmmm ok thanks for your help guys. The Acura parts guy told me that it was the day time running module under the dash because the whole head light system routes through that unit and it may be defective or damaged.

Also keep in mind that none of us have DRLs :D
I have DRL; as I noted before, the relay was the problem in my particular case.
Haha oh yeah I forgot about that....I'll have to give'e a whirl then. And to top it off, I ripped the drivers side door handle off tonight so now I have to open it from the passenger side.
:(
haha I was showing my GF how I thought my handle was gonna bust off soon because it was sticking out a bit and sure enough I jiggled it and it snapped at the connector arms. $147 later + labour for that bad boy :(
