is it time to sell my beloved '91 LS 4dr?

I'm the original owner - 160,000 miles. I've maintained the car, spent some serious $$ in past year, but my mechanic says its burning some oil and I could be looking at a money pit soon. I'm not mechanical or technical - and the car runs great!, so I could use some advice cause its hard to let go of such a great car.
