I need to replace the radiator soon. I have a 6sp 2dr. What is the diference between radiator material. Witch is recomended? Why?
Not a huge difference, the aftermarket ones will be of a lesser quality build but the plastic top on the OE ones is their major weakpoint. I got an all metal Dual Core one from CSF and its been great... so far.

radiator hose probably kinks because the radiator CAP is bad. It has two valves - one lets fluid out when the pressure builds, and one lets fluid back in . The one that opens to let fluid back in is probably bad. If a new cap doesn't fix the kink problem, empty the catch bottle and clean it then wash out the overflow hose to be sure it isn't plugged.

Well how about this. I had a slight overheating issue so I decided to try to just remove the thermostat to see what would happen. Ever since then I have had no overflow in the bottle or any air in the system. I believe that the thermostat was faulty causing the coolant to not be able to flow so it would spill into the bottle. Then when the thermostat would open there would now be air in the system. Any thoughts?

Overheating causes

Did you have your PCV valve replaced shortly before overheating problems showed up??? If yes, please reply.

My overheating symptoms are the same as many of the others on this thread:

'91 Legend, 130K, temp spikes at idle or slow engine speed, fine on highway

loss of hot heater air during spike

happens only in cold weather
no smoke, runs great, mechanics said there were no external leaks

removal of thermostat fixes all these problems, and although the car runs cold on the highway, city driving (which is what I do) is fine.

I've had my problem for 32 months and 20k miles...in the winter I just take out my thermostat (and I don't drive much anyway).

If you aren't getting air in the system then the problem was the thermostat. If your fluid level is going down after a few days then you have a bad head gasket.

Dethie:

could you provide the info on where you got the CSF metal radiator? Do they have a website? If so, could you post the link? Also, do you have any idea of where new headbolts can be purchased? I'm going to retorque my heads, that's a good time to replace the headbolts. Thanks in advance.

I am 99% sure it was radiatorexpress.com or something like that.

http://www.radiatorexpress.com/prod...DIATOR+2-Row+Rugged+All+Metal+Upgrade+Replacement&part_id=39590&aaia_id=1000720

And Acura of Augusta is probably your best bet for headbolts. I hope you plan on doing the whole headgasket job if you plan on swapping out your old headbolts. You can't just unbolt one and stick a new one in, that will warp your heads even more. If you plan on bringing them all down to ~30ft/lb and then doing it your gaskets will probably never be the same. If you want to play it safe plan on tearing half your motor apart to do it. :(

Thanks for the link, I may not mess with the headbolts, I should have replaced them when I rebuilt the heads. There are pros and cons on retorques, but you're right, releasing the full torque on any of the bolts is not wise. Cheers.

Any suggestions on where to get a decent OEM Heater core without going to the dealer? Thanks much.

I have a 95 LS with 128k. It is having the same symtoms as many of the people here. For example, the temp gauge with rise up to the hot zone and immediate comes down. There is no heat. What is weird is the fans don't come on if I don't turn without the temperature set to "auto".

For now, I don't see any oil in the coolant of coolant in the oil yet. There is a little smoke coming out the tail pipe. When I open the radiator cap and have the engine running, I can see some bubbles coming from the radiator.

Can you all comfirm that I have a BHG?

I can to get a confirmation before spending the big bucks to fix it.

Thanks.

Picture of Coolant Hoses

Anyone wants a picture of all coolant hoses on our 91-95 Legends? Email me. Not sure how to add images here.

I had the same problem as everyone here for about 10 months. The temp would run hot for a while them go back to normal. I had white smoke coming out the tailpipe. I replaced the thermostat, radiator cap and noticed nothing different. My radiator overflow tank was always full. I had to keep draining it. I just recently got my legend back from the shop. I had new heads put on and replaced my radiator. It runs a whole lot better now. No more overheating here.

Question For you guys...
1995 Legend GS 138K
Took it to a Shop for BHG...
Tested for HC in the coolant: None
NO white smoke out of the tailpipe.
NO milky white oil.
The sd the top hose was hot and the bottom was cold.
They replaced the temostat, Same same
While getting ready for the BGH...
They found out that the Timing belt wasnt properly installed around the
Water pump.
Replaced Hoses and clips. Check radiator.
Added a new Battery(Optima)
Changed oil to Syn
Car starts running GREAT
for 45mins
Temp gauge spikes, and steam out of reservoir.
No Heat out of the AC, however the engine is not Burning up
They bled the system. Twice
Same same...
Now I am out 1000.00 And still looking at a BHG.
Or should I get a replacment motor....
Has anyone used http://www.enginesus.com?

Did you do a pressure test of the radiator? No HC in the coolant is a good thing. You may have a leak somewhere? For me, they found HC in my coolant. Difinitely a BHG.

You got the shaft. I'd just get a new Engine.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in Ft Lauderdale area? All Jap Cars is near my house, has anyone used them?

Holy Crap,

This thread is 58 pages long. I don't wanna read all 58 pages, but dad's Legend had an issue today:

He took a short trip to the store in his 94 Legend. He turned the heat on, but it never got hot. He popped the hood when he got home and there was some coolant in the engine bay and a hissing sound (most likely, IMO, coolant hitting the engine) It was dark when I got home, so I have not looked at anything yet. I think he mentioned the hose going from the top of the engine to the radiator had coolant on/around it.

Basically I'm hoping that maybe it's just that hose that is leaking, causing the coolant leval to drop, which is making the heat not work. Or worst case the radiator top is coming loose.

He also said it never overheated, everything seemed fine, but no heat, coolant in engine bay.

I'm taking his coupe to Auburn City Imports on Monday, but I would appreciate your thoughts. I've gone through the headgasket issue with my coupe and I don't need him to have to go though that.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Acura Legend. :)

If you saw leaking coolant then its not a headgasket failure... yet. Find the leak and fix it and you might be ok for a while.
