keyless entry

2704 Views 21 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  GREYLEGEND
Did any of the G1's come with keyless entry as an option or standard? I was curious if mine had it and was lost somewhere along the way. My last car had it and I miss it to the point of maybe getting it installed aftermarket if it's not already present. Anyone know what it would cost aftermarket? If it had one, how much to replace the remote? Car is in sig below...

I dunno if it had a facotory keyless, but one of my audio shop is selling the Clifford InteliGaurd 7000 for just a bit over 200 installed.
Some of the Legends did come with the remote locking as standard.
Check to see if there is a small window in front of the drivers door handle. if there is one you have the remote lock unit.
You can alos confirm by removing the door trim and seeing if the receiver unit is there.
You can order a new remote unit from Honda/Acura, don't know the cost tho'
You can have one of two types
One is in the key
and the other is a single unit apr 2-3 inches long

I have the keyless entry on my 89 Legend but haven't replaced the remote unit yet

Hope this helps
G1 Legends never had a factory keyless entry option. Even on the $41k GS in 94 and 95 it was an "option." The G1s are often and easily retrofitted with aftermarket systems, though.

Maye the American market didn't receive the option, but I can guarantee you my 89 Legend has factory standard remote locking and opening. Remind me and I'll post pics of the receiver unit and the Factory Manual information. :))

My other legend, the'86 does not have this but i will be installing a laser-line shortly.
i was at circuit city today and they had a who remote entry setup for $41. I know its cheap but do you think it would work?

As Shadow said...keyless entry WAS offered on non-American G1 Legends.. and the receiver unit was in the driver's door.

also......as were seat heaters......

That's not bad actually... It is a keyless entry system and only keyless entry (no siren, alarm, etc). However, the down side of this is that you will have to disable your factory alarm (if equipped) which would leave your car without any alarm system at all.
OK, I lucked out but I picked up a used remote entry on Ebay for $6.
It has a separate lock/unlock button and a separate button for the trunk pop. Best addition to the car.
Installation is easy IF you know what wires you're looking for. The wires are not as easy to find as compared to a Camry ($10 remote system too.)

The trunk pop is the hardest and I ended sending a wire all the back to the trunk and discarded the idea of tapping the harness.
The lock unlock wires are way up there pretty much above the main relay.
The start line is easily traced from the ignition switch same for parking lights.

You need a relay for the trunk pop.

Constant Power----- WHITE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Ignition Power----- BLACK/YELLOW IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Ignition 2 Power--- YELLOW IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
ACC Power ----- Blue/WHITE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Starter------- BLACK/WHITE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Door Trigger------- BLACK/WHITE (-) DRIVER'S KICK PANEL OR AT DOME
Trunk Pin---------- GREEN/BLACK (-) AT STEERING COLUMN "GRN PLUG"
Parking Lights------- RED/BLACK AT LIGHT SWITCH or DRV KICK
Power Lock--------- GREEN/WHITE (-) ***
Power Unlock------- GREEN/RED (-) NEGATIVE TRIGGER ***
Factory Disarm ----- GREEN/RED (-) DRIVERS KICK PANEL **
Brake ------ GREEN/WHITE (+) AT SWITCH
TACH ------ BLUE AT COIL
Trunk Release ---- WHITE/BLACK (+) AT SWITCH

Loctaed behind relay center under drivers dash, release two 10mm bolts and drop relay center down, found in a gray molex plug.

hey man can you show me a link to the one you got? i wanna do the same thing.
crimestopper cs855rke. Old model but does the trick.
There's a nice viper on ebay. I avoid viper because the rubber buttons wear out too easily that's just me.

I like crimestopper because the buttons are hard plastic and had the trunk button too.The microswitch underneath the button is also replaceable for less than a $1 each in the event your remote goes bad.
what all did you get for $6.
Do i need a full system to make it work or just the remote?

will this work?
If you're looking for good prices on CrimeStopper alarms w/keyless entry or more go to www.discountave.net and look for car alarms. Got mine off of their with remote start too. I love it!
i just got my code keyless entry system but i can find the ingnition switch harness were exactly is it at?
Yeah, that's a nice unit. Love the led light on remote.

The ignition switch harness can be found by just finding the ignition switch and follow the wires. Look from the steering wheel side. Remove the bottom of the steering wheel shroud. It goes across. It has some heavy wires.
i need some help. how do i wire up the door locks and unlocks. i am very confused. the manual that came with my keyless entry has about 15 differnt ways to wire it up.
Before you start, you'll need a voltmeter or a 12V probe.
To use the probe you attach the alligator clip onto any part of the car that is grounded. When you touch 12v the light will go on.

Get a straight sewing pin or pins that come with shirts to push into wires. The way to do it is to push the ppin into the wire to contact the copper inside. That allows you to test the wire that you think is the right one.

You can tap any constant power and the easiet is to find the ignition harness and test that it is constantly 12v. Either use a voltmeter or a probe.

The ignition power is black/yellow. That means black wire with a yellow stripe. Stick the pin in and it should have power when the ignition key is turned on.

The power locks are negative ground. That means that if you ground the wire to the lock, it will activate. To get those wires you need to drop a big hunk of a relay center down and disconnect a gray molex plug. The lock and unlock is there. The wires are kinda small. It UPPPPP there. Thisis the hard part. When you think you have the wire, touch the probe on the pin and the lock will either lock or unlock depending on the wire.

The parking lights are above the fuse panel in the driver's kick panel. Use a probe and test using the stalk. When the lights are turned on, there will be 12 v to the probe.

To get the trunk working, you have to select the channel you want to use and get a SPDT auto relay. http://members.tripod.com/~alarmtek/RELAY1.html

hey thanks man i got it to work now. The only think i couldnt get to work is the trunk release.
Hi Greylegend,
Can you tell me which 10mm bolts to take out. I took out one 10mm bolt that is way up high above the main relay (you have get your head down by the brake pedal to see it), but that doesnt seem to do the trick.
There are quite a few 10mm bolts around that area, can you tell me exactly which ones am looking for?

Also how do you route the tach cable from under the hood to inside the car? (I am thinking of getting the tach signal from the tachometer in the guage cluster...).

thanks.

solaide.
