Whatever you say chief.
The bottom line is they have to be taken out, cleaned and pressure tested and replaced if they fail the test.
Other than that replacing them with new is the only other option to ensure a quiet motor.
As far as I am concerned there is no other way about it, if you believe you have a way of eliminating it which hasn't been mentioned (which I highly doubt) then I strongly encourage you to share it. Otherwise go away if you're not going to be a0of ny help.

I think its about time i replace my lifter completley.
I used to have cold start ticking, then took it for a service where they put 20w50 in, now that i have switched it to a lower grade after a week of driving it on the 20w50 (10w40 synthetic), i get no lifter tick at start up for about 30sec some times a full min, but then it ticks all the time even when warm.
It will eventually go away after about 20-30mins of driving but only at revs higher than 2.5k.

One tyre fitter i spoke to suggested getting the sump pick up cleaned out (he owned a legend) and giving the galleries a flush, said it cost him $300 and it sorted his out.

Pennzoil is one of the worst oil you can ever use. It does nothing but create sludge in your engine. The only thing good about Pennzoil is their advertising budget. Don't think for one minute they use the same stuff in their race cars as they sell to the public.

^ Six words...
Drive it like you stole it. That should keep the lifter ticking at bay :mhihi:

my blue coupe it ticks like crazy, it sounds horrible when it's cold (like a bunch of midgets with ball peen hammers under the hood), i swear all 24 of them bad boys goin' at it. as it warms up you can hear it as each one stops, it's crazy. after it warms all the way a couple tick just about all the time until i put some stick to it and around 3k rpm it stops.

my red coupe hardly ever ticks. every once in a while on a cold morning.

if anyone continues reading this thread, here's my situation.
I have tried Seafoam in my crankcase, and that pretty much did nothing. My car has 360k so i didn't really want to go with a thin oil, but i tried it.
It was quiet for the first couple of days, but the ticking came back. I went back to 20-50 and once again trying 5-30, no luck.
Now, i tried raising my rpm's to 4500 for a quarter mile to raise the pressure, and the ticking went away for part of the trip on the freeway. Once the pressure dropped, the ticking came back.
Working on a 90 Legend, how would i checking the oil pressure?
i believe the only lifters making noise are those in cylinder #2.

There's a permanent fix for the lifter tick, I have been around the forums for a long time and so far no one else has figured it out. Or at least if they have, they haven't told anyone just like me ;)
y hold on to such treasured knowledge?
My noise went away with a simple adjustments of the exhaust valves. #3 cylinder got louder and louder and more constant. i gave them just about a 1/4 turn and VOOALA! tapping is gone.
aside from my ignition now blowing the Switch B Fuse, the engine runs even better than before

My car used to make a lot of ticking noise until I replaced the valve cover gaskets then it only did it when it was cold then I replaced the oil pan gasket and my car hasn't made one tick since I think air was escaping through the bad gaskets and causing the litters not to be bled properly. And I use 10w 30 oil cause it's thinner and I think it flows better but that's just what I think.

Actually 10w-30 is thicker. And changing the gaskets has nothing at all to do with the lifters. Engines have air in them all the time, they are not a vacuum.
