I would be carefull with valve springs designed for an NSX. The NSX cams have differnet lobe heights, not to mension seperate cams for intake and exaust. The valve spring rates will be diffirent unless you have your cams redone and ground to the same specs as the NSX which is probably not what would be best for our longer stroke 3.2L engines.

Also if you are rebuilding the bottom end make sure you go with some beefier connecting rods. The stock Legend crank shaft has shims between the connecting rods to allow for beefier connecting rods. I assume for the NSX but I am not certain on this. Considering you have the bottom end apart and are already spenging $2000 - $3000 you might as well go with custom forged and balanced connecting rods.

You will only have carbon buildup in the intake and exaust ports. The bottom end of the engine will be pretty clear of carbon.

I tore apart the bottom end of a 110k mile Legend engine that was starved of oil. The bottom end was in perfect condition.

There is really no reason to dissasemble the bottom end unless you are doing some performance mods to it, ie: crank, connecting rods, pistons & rings.

What work are you getting done exactly? You said it would cost you $2000 - $3000 but what you have listed above could close in near $8000.

I am currently rebuilding my heads, porting and polishing everything, possibly sending my exaust manifolds to Extrude Hone, getting Type II cam and valves and Type II intake along with custom metal head gaskets. I am doing all but the machine work myself (I am doing my P&P job as well) and my estimated cost is $2600. The downside of doing everything yourself... time... my baby has been garaged for about a month now... I miss her :(

NickD your engine is going to be sweet. How much power do you estimate when your done?
I hate over estimating these things to only be dissapointed.

My goal is 300+, reality I will say 260 at the crank which I am more than certain I will achieve.

DaveC, the last problem with that idea even is installation of the engine. I don't think you will be able to drop the engine in with the headers on it. On the left side of the engine you have the axel in the way. On the right side however you have the axel and steering column as well.

Next time I am back down at my parents place (Where my car is) I will take some pictures of the two crammed sides. I have just the block left sitting in the engine bay right now and you can get a really clear picture of both sides. This will give everoyne an idea of the trouble that we are have with headers. I don't plan on heading down there till probably the end of August though, so it may be a while for the pics.

Well, I have a spare engine block and heads. Don't know if it does any good up in NJ though. But if it helps I have pictures on-line of that block on an engine stand. It has the transmission and diff removed from it though so they probably wouldn't help much.

SpeedDemon, I spoke with Extrude Hone which takes your stock manifolds and greatly increases the size and polishes them for increased flow. When I spoke to them over the phone they claimed their process will add up to 15hp for $500 at ~20% increase in airflow.

I am probably going to send them a set of manifolds this month.

Leon, I haven't heard anything on the gaskets yet :(

How did you ask them to contact me? Via e-mail or phone? I will be away the week after this coming up one (Aug12-19) for vacation. Vegas baby, Vegas! :D I plan on finishing this project up shortly after returning but it may get pushed off some now since I found out my company is moving and I have to help them do the physical move (very small company, trying to start up in this economy and we are moving to a bigger building :D)

Anyway... that's the current situtation. So the headgaskets I will need by the latest at the end of the month.

Are they also willing to make more? I mean, will this become a new product for the Legend or a one time custom deal? Just curious. Also how will they handle payment? I guess the same way as the strutbar, which came yesterday :D Haven't seen it yet, had it shipped to my parents place (where my baby is).

Damn fast response Leon :) Hehehe... Do you have your e-mail rigged so that when it sees a message from the forums it automatically loads it in your browser and grabs keyboard focus like an AIM window??? :D Hehehe :)

Oh, btw, thanks for the quick response. I'll e-mail them in a few minutes.
