Lower front end...to match sagging rear

As most of us have experienced, the rear end of most 1st Gens sits lower than the front. My '97 sits about an inch lower in back...as measured by fender gap. Does anyone have a suggestion for lowering the front about an inch? I would rather not incur the cost of replacing al the coils and/or struts. Any experience cutting down the front coils?...though I imagine this may negatively affect the suspension response and ride. Any ideas will be appreciated.
