Lusting for a twin turbo setup, and would like (helpful) ideas

First I apologize for the serious teaser and putting up pics of a project without results and dyno's because there are none. And who knows how long it could be before I go any further it could be a year or more! I just love hearing the ideas suggestions, feedback and knowlege you all have to offer. Isn't that a bulk of what we are here for? :) Well as many of you know I am currently underway with the Supercharger setup. It has been a very slow process but is still underway and the manifold for it is now being welded from what I understand.

I could not get over how much I loved Hotlava's tt setup and it overcame me. So I figured at some point in the future I also wanted to do a tt setup and began slowly buying the additional pieces it would take to do so (being that many are the same, such as injectors, fuel pump monitoring gauges and what not). Then last week my car decide to get some garage time (it broke down later found to be a broken axle, Ebay? I think it was tsk tsk). But none the less it was a perfect excuse to play while she was down so I started to look at how I would eventually want my tt to be setup. What better way than to play. It helps kill concepts that look good in your head given the (not so) workable space; a few of my ideas have since died. But long story short this is where I am at so far. Now that my wife knows that it is just a broken axle I only have shipping time to continue playing before having to put her back together again.

A couple quick notes

-No this will not be done/completed for a very very long time.-This is very new to me so I would be the last to ask for suggestions though I love to share ideas.
-Yes the supercharger project is still underway and taking precedence over this.

-No I did not wake up one morning and say I am going to do a Legend Twin turbo setup during breakfast (sorry Hybird, that just kills me lol)
-No I am not going to be using PVC intercooler piping it is just cheaper to hack away at till I figure how I am going to do it when the time comes.
-I have also read up on some articles of Twin vs. Single and each seem to have there advantages from knowlegable members of their respective forums.
-cheap clamps will be replaced with t-clamps.

Ok the book is done here's the pics. (excuse the mess my garage is at war)
also please forgive the ugly "stand in" mesh and terrible paint, looks will come last. I don't want to tear it up after doing body work and paint.

This one concerns me, there is not much rook and there is a damn brake fluid line that may need to be relocated. wires and hoses I don't mind moving brake, AC, and power steering lines I am not so happy/experinced with.

Hopefully at some point I will be done destroying my car and be able to build it up like the one in my head lol.

-Tip- If you get a new intercooler or radiator, cover the fins with cardboard until it is fully installed so you don't damage the fins during installation :hide:

PS. The purple finish and and nice shiney engine bay will be back in time. it was too hard to maintain and not scratch to hell while getting a bug of some sort and doing stuff like ^ this. I think eventually I will powdercoat vs. paint though.

Will do I gotta reload it on to my PC first so I will post again once I have it.

The new IAT is out of harms way lol, and I thought it might be the VIS sticking or getting backwards vacuum somehow still but it still does it when that is not hooked up. I will play with it a bit more today.

Ok I did give some slight misinformation; I mentioned that the cams made a big difference well I was wrong. There was actually a boost leak that I overlooked in the intercooler piping but I have corrected it and she once again runs strong enough to get in a preliminary track run by the end of the month, and be good representation to the Legend. still a lot to do so she will stay at 8psi till she gets tuned hopefully in a month or so. for now she is running at 11.6-12.5 AFR on average so I am not concerned with blowing her up :). I still have no idea what the approx. hp is and have not worked out that shutter under throttle. in other words I am back to where I was last month this time lol.

sent this via PM to a member but figured since it was a long explanation I would post.
Well I actually have it running pretty strong and it hesitates between 3-3.5k RPM's like it is getting too much fuel, I am sure it deals with the map sensor. The only time it has a real issue that it can't work through is when I boost through 3rd at the end of 3rd it throws a code 3 and trips the rev limiter and increases the fuel to a 9.80 or less AFR, till I reset the code but a quick car off and on at the key. The FIC should resolve that though, I just wanted to get it running well enough to tell what issues were FIC related and which were not. Forgot to mention that when the intake off the turbos are not hooked up it does run strong NA.

lol sorry about that those were two different unrelated issues I was referring to, sorry for the confusion. I tried the other sensor to the same avail and it too didn't work I am leaning toward it being in the wiring but I gotta let the car cool down first, I am getting tired of the burns :(

And yes . . .they will come :)

Yeah it would show some sign of wear on the VSS. One of the pins were not all the way in so we'll see if that fixes it

#1,374 ·
Ok fixed the VSS issue. It was that one pin in the connection that I wish I would have seen a while ago lol, but that's fine.

I gave her a little workout and she ran strong but for some reason after it is warmed up it and then turned back off it refuses to start again. The manual has troubleshooting for it not starting when it is cold but its not cold. In the back of my mind I am thinking this is still plug related because the new plugs are not in yet but I will wait for it to cool down and see if she fires.

No need for another post so she cooled off and fired up :dunno:

The first Gen Legends have that issue and it's usually one of two things. The IAT or the igniter.

around what rpm are you making boost with those turbos?

#1,380 ·
it will leave the vacuum stage around 2k and begin building at 3k, and all hell breaks loose around 4.5 and up, I need to get a better vid up. In time I guess.

#1,381 ·
Ok tried to get a better quality vid and brought an assistant with me this time.

Still not very long and not the best quality, but better than the last. I wanted to get more but I threw a code 3 and the whole car not starting till it cools down was not something I was willing to sit on the side of the freeway for. In this clip I think I missed a gear (I here my self cursing quietly)

nice video, its looking pretty quick!

#1,383 ·
Thanks, still seems to have too many kinks to put on the track though. I can't really boost through third gear without throwing a hard code. But it is getting there.

true twins indeed

That's weird with the vids side by side they look about the same speed. except for the sweep on the RPM's after we shift.

#1,389 ·
yea after the shift my car seems to hesitate a bit but yours jumps right back up

I'm sure once you fix all the little glitches and increase the boost a bit more, they wont look similar at all haha

#1,390 ·
If it does I would question whether you are at 230 or 330whp. I wasn't going to mention this because she is still running choppy but Ran came over today for a ride, ok I made him come over because he had been in several cars over 300hp and I wanted an idea of where I was approx. and he agrees I am well over 300, he thinks closer to 400 I think that's a generous statement, but considering he had recently been in a 390whp STI I would guess that he can't be too far off?

#1,392 ·
That makes two of us I hate the stupid stuttering and inability to push it I am not the tender type when it comes to driving. And for some reason I can't avoid this stupid code3 in 3rd

T3/t4's, you seem interested, there is a lot of good info in the thread I know it's long and will work on a condensed version once I am done.
