MLS Strut Bar Copy [Update]

We have test fitted the bar on both the sedan and coupe, and because of the way the MLS ones are set to barely clear under the hood, any slight variance either in the bar or the car may cause a misfit.

What we have concluded is that the bars would have to be cut an additional 1/4". This will still allow room between the bar and the engine, while ensuring that it also clears the hood, and IMO, would be a much better fit than the actual MLS bars.

So, at this point, the bars will be cut and re-powder-coated. As ChrisK has said that he does not need it powder-coated being that he plans to paint it anyway, we'd like to know if anyone else would like to not have it powder-coated.

Please let us know.

As far as time is concerned, it looks like it would take about 3 more weeks as the fabricator has since been bogged with more work.

Sorry about the delay, and any inconvenience. We'll try to get this done and out to those of you who ordered ASAP.

Thanks for understanding.

I'll do the tower bar w/ any fab shop that'll do it right at a good price. I know for my car, I can just follow Alexei's diagrams (as sparse they are) and get the front and rear fabed, but for the KA guys, I dunno how rears would fit.

DEAN and LEGENDGS - Since DEAN is opting to fab a MLS Copy Strut bar his G1 possibly @ Area 51, I am willing to have Area 51 do it for the G2. So, the price is $245 shipped for a G2 94 Coupe?

I'll be honest. This guy we used isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination. With him, you'll be paying the price for sure. He can get the job done though.

We didn't use Area 51 for the fab, so I don't know what they would charge. The $245 price was based on what the guy we went to charges, including shipping.
oic. Do you or does that guy have the drawings or the layout for the bar? If so, could we get it from you, so we can get Area 51 maybe to try a few or so before mass producing them?

LegendC,

Sorry it's taking so long. We've actually picked up the bars, but we decided to hold on and have them test fitted to make sure that they are all good before we ship them out. Trying to avoid any problems with fitment so that we know that they'll all fit when they are shipped.

I did not expect it to go this long, and sincerely apologize for the delay. We just want to make sure that they're done right.

We're close though. Very close. :)

Thanks to everyone for your patience on this.

Dean,

Will you be doing this with Area 51?

Thanks for the response, I prefer to wait and have it work the first time than to deal with issues later on.

Also, the MLS look bars are I believe a totally different look. Most stut bars are made flashy, but the MLS ones are plain jane black and looks practically OEM. It will appeal to different people. I wanted the stock look, so I went MLS style. I know other people wanted one that had more show look to it to dress up the eninge bay more, so they will probably look to a different one.

It's worth the wait. Patience.

There ready to be shipped. I'm hoping to hook up with Fut today to get it rolling. Just a matter of scheduling.

The wait is almost over. Sorry it took so long. :p
As long as it works the first time it is put on, it won't matter how long it takes to fabricate. :D :D I'm also more into rigidity then bling bling that may hurt your eyes. ;) After all, the addition of a strut bar is to strengthen the chassis during the cornering and lessen the body roll, right! :D Thanks to LegendGS and all involved that made probably the "one and only" MLS copy strut bar GB happened. :p :p

It's different. Leon's project isn't related to the MLS copy project, and as I understand it, the bars will look quite different from each other.
Ok, so I'm a bit lost. Leon states in his thread that both bars are totally different entities. How so? Before I state my understanding, maybe you can state your understanding of it.

Umm... Honestly, I haven't really been following so I don't have too much info on it, but my understanding is that Leon's project will not be based on the MLS bars like ours was. I believe that it is being built from scratch, and though it will serve the same purpose, it will be a completely different design.

Other than price, do you see the design or the performance benefit to be any greater or lesser between either model?

I really can't say. The bars that Leon is having built have not been made yet, so even if I could compare, at this point there really isn't anything to compare it with.

I'm sure that they would work well though; especially since they're being built specifically for the Legend.

As to whether one would perform better than the other, that would be a tough one.
