MLS Strut Bar Copy [Update]

We have test fitted the bar on both the sedan and coupe, and because of the way the MLS ones are set to barely clear under the hood, any slight variance either in the bar or the car may cause a misfit.

What we have concluded is that the bars would have to be cut an additional 1/4". This will still allow room between the bar and the engine, while ensuring that it also clears the hood, and IMO, would be a much better fit than the actual MLS bars.

So, at this point, the bars will be cut and re-powder-coated. As ChrisK has said that he does not need it powder-coated being that he plans to paint it anyway, we'd like to know if anyone else would like to not have it powder-coated.

Please let us know.

As far as time is concerned, it looks like it would take about 3 more weeks as the fabricator has since been bogged with more work.

Sorry about the delay, and any inconvenience. We'll try to get this done and out to those of you who ordered ASAP.

Thanks for understanding.

Did I hear "SHIPPED"??

ohh, he he he I can't wait to see it coming.:D I'm usually not this excited over a strut bar, but this one has definitely got me all worked up!:p :p Now, I just have to find my tool box and tame my itchy fingers a little longer. ;)

I'll take some pictures as I attempt to put it on the car then report back here. Thanks again to all that made this happened. :) Now, where is my torque wrench.....

regards,

Other than price, do you see the design or the performance benefit to be any greater or lesser between either model?
The performance should be near equal given that both cars will be made with good quality. Strut tower braces are not like anti sway bars. Once the bar supports the strut towers enough where the towers no longer flex, than that is good enough and anything more is useless.

Anti swap bars on the other hand can be made softer or stiffer depending on what state of tune you want. Going too stiff on an anti sway bar in the front will start to cause more undesired understeer. I

In all practical purposes, Leons bar and the MLS bar will perform nearly identical, and the difference is in the cosmetics. Leaons one from what I could see in the picture might be better for someone looking for a more show quality, while the MLS is nealy a stock looking bar.

A special thanks to Graeme and Fut...

I just wanted to say a special thank you to LegendGS and Fut for making this all come together.

I received my bar yesterday and I just had to install it the first chance i could! I went to my buddies shop right after work and i put it on.

Let me just say that there is a night and day difference in handling/cornering. Body roll is basically non-existent and the front end has a new 'solid' feel.

After doing my suspension, i thought the handling was awesome, but now it truly does handle like it was on rails. I drove almost 80 miles since yesterday just to get the feel... needless to say I LIKE!!!

Installation Tips (*coupe):
by Steve91LS

Tools/Materials:
14mm deep socket, 12mm reg., 10mm reg., hinged ratchets (if possible), flathead screwdriver, zip ties
Time: 50 mins.

1.) Remove the stock brace in order to position the Strut bar easier (12mm).

2.) Remove the two bolts on the strut tower nearest the engine on each tower (14mm).

3.) Test place the bar.

4.) As you will see, there is a cruise control cable bracket you will need to remove and a wire harness that will need repositioning on the driver side. Remove the rear cable bracket (10mm) and remove the wire harness from its bracket by using the screwdriver to press on the release (flathead).

5.) Place the bar on the towers and hand tighten the nuts. (When putting the bar on the tower, make sure the cruise cable is OVER the bar)

6.) Torque down the nuts using the ratchet (14mm) 5-6 turns each, then switch to the opposite side and torque the nut diagonally across until tight (like when torquing lug nuts on a wheel). This will insure even placement of the brackets to the body.

7.) Zip tie both the wire harness to the tower bar and the cruise cable near where the original brackets would have been.

8.) Re-install the stock anti-sway bar.

9.) YOU'RE DONE!!!
*not sure if the installation will differ from the sedan

Have fun!!!

Completely agree with you. I could not wait to put it in yesterday, I will post my installation picts soon. Car handles very very flat now. I did have to re-route my A/C lines to make everything fit.

I actually did end up tucking it underneath it. My roommate had already snapped the shots before I figured that last piece out. Do you recommend retightenging the bolts after you put a couple miles on it?
