ATTENTION!!

Mike left out one thing. You need to get an Alpine to Acura coverter cable otherwise your music will be out of phase. After I plugged mine in I noticed the sound was playing better on the left side of the speakers once I plugged my old Alpine-Acura adapter everything was fine!!

I'm still :eek2: at the amount of music I can listen to now

Thanks for this info.

I presently have an Alpine 7878 Head unit that displays the track info and folder info and all that, and I'm about to put it into my G1.... because it already has an audio system built in it (that I had from way back)...

But I'll keep this mod in mind when it comes to next year and I have tons of mp3 CD's that I need to play in my G2 coupe! :)

That looks sweet :) Congrat! I want to do the same but I'm using the box to store some stuffs rightnow. It is a convenient little box for storing some emergency stuffs, you know. How much it cost for the MP3 deck? I figure I might save up some money and get an iPod with stand in my car :) From what I heard, a HD-based MP3 player is not bad. The iPod in particular have about 30+ min skip protection. With smooth driving, that should not even be a problem.

Mocca: Save the $$ save the hassle. This thing only costs ~$250

Denali: I have no idea as to what variable bit rate or whatever it is your talking about. All I do is open up Nero and drag and drop my favorite mp3's onto the CD and just click burn.

VBR mp3's

I did a test last night with VBR (Variable bit rate) and it works great!

Basically VBR is when the encoder changes bit rates in the middle of encoding to optimize the size and quality... (i.e. it only uses 192kbps if it needs it) otherwise it will use 160 or 128, or what ever bit rate is appropriate...

It's a best of bread kinda thing. I only tested one song last night but it worked great with the CHAS-634 changer!

I encoded my test with the lame encoder with the best quality setting, and while at this high quality setting I can only fit 5 cds worth of music onto a cdr, it sounds great!

30 CD's between gas stations should be enough.

I also timed the seek times, and track to track is about three seconds. In shuffle mode (auto select button on the head unit) the track to track seemed to be about four(but it really depends on the distance the head needs to move), and the disk change time is about ten seconds...

Did you just put a hole in the bottom of the rubber storage bin, or is there a mounting kit that I should pickup for the changer?

take it back to circuit city and have them FIX IT.

your steering wheel controls should be working if your using your stock oem stereo.

they probably forgot to plug the steering wheel remote adapter in the back on the stereo.

well you might f*ck things up and void circuit city's installation warranty.

anyhow, I believe there is a blue adapter behind the stereo headunit. You'll have to take out the center console, take out the headunit and and look for a little light blue adapter and find a socket insert that will fit that adapter behind the headunit.

There will only be one that fits that adapter.

If I were you, I'd take it back to circuit city, I don't think they should give you any problems.

Oh yeah, forgot about this, I got it fixed, we just unplugged the blue cord behind the head unit and plugged it back in better? i guess so it works now.

This is putting hooking up an Alpine Mp3 CD changer into stock everything. on an L model

So how do you guys like having MP3 songs on cds ? Don't you think its way too many songs for one cd?

I have enough trouble finding the songs I am looking for sometimes on my regular sony 10 disc............I can't imagine looking through 1,000 songs................or 250 songs per disc.......I would just be so lost...........I'd never find what I want, and would just be listening to random songs................how do you go through them quickly? And how do you find what you're looking for? Is it really practical or usable to have 250 songs per disc, unless you just wanna slowly listen through the whole thing ?

Yes its a pain in the arse finding the songs you like and the ones you'd wanna burn. What I ended up doing was just taking a bunch of songs that I liked and dumped it into the cd. While listening I have to scroll through a lot of songs. I end up using the shuffle function and just letting it play random songs. If however, in the future I get a alpine head. The unit will let me put songs into seperate folders and show the artists name on the screen too. So the real advantage will be realized when you take out your stock unit and get a Alpine unit capable of controllig the cd changer.
