hi everybody............well today i went to look at a 1993 ls coupe
its an auto w/97000miles, 90k service was done(timing belt, etc)

theres a few problems.....
1 on the speedometer, the rpm gauge does not work?? all the other ones do- im thiunking can it be dissconnected to stop the mileage????
2. on the auto cluster, where theres the P, R, d4 d3 etc, for some reason the D4 light doesnt work, all others do?? i know the flashing d4 would tell u if there was a tranny problem.

the explaination for these problems was oneday he put his high beams on and the entire cluter went out, it was a relay under the hood he says and since then the D4 and rpm's side hasnt worked.

What do u guys think...........scam??? or ppossible problems

3. the button on the auto shifter is stuck down....problem?? quick fix??

Besides the 3 i told u, it seems ok A/c cold, everything seems to work but for some reason i just dont trust the fact that 2 key items isnt working which "would hide something"
then the car i could get for only $5,000.00!!!!

You know what they say seems too good to be true, but seriously i need your advice and what can i do or should do before buying car?? or should i buy it??
any similar experiences??? or problems??

Can i bring car to acura dealer and pay them to check the car out??? how much would it cost??? what do they check with the service???

Sorry for the loooong post and many questions but if its good i dont want this deal to pass by but at the same time do not want to make a 5,000 mistake......i know u guys feel my pain so any help would be greatly appreciated.........the car is in NYC

i have to let him know something by tomorrow because he claims he has a lot of people wanting to buy it.............so any advice asap thanx

ps

the car is in nyc but has a alabama registration and plates.....he gave me a whole story of how he was in nyu and the car was left in alabama and he brought the car up here 3 months ago but it cost over 400 a month for parking and that he really doesnt need a car because its manhattan.........

First I would get a Carfax report from: pchi@pitterchi.com ..

Does the car appear to actually have only 97k miles on it? I don't know about the cluster lights/d4 light, but his story sounds like a possible true electrical glitch...The shifter shouldn't be that big of a deal, it is only 2 screw holding it on. Mine did it for a while, I just took it apart and cleaned in there, it was good then....

The Acura dealership will do a good inspection on the car, I think it is around $90, well worth it in my opinion, though i didn't get one done.

Best of luck!

did you run a carfax on it? also, you could go to the local pd and give them the VIN to see if it comes up stolen.

The D4 is quite common probably because it is the most used. Mine did not work until I put in indiglo gauges - now it works fine again :werd:

As long as carfax is clean and you like the car, go for it. if you ever want to sell the car, you won't have too much problem since it has a clean carfax. Most people go by carfax thesedays.

Apart from that, if you have time take the car to Acura and get it inspected - it's worth spending 90 bucks before you spend 5k.

Also, if you get a chance try to drive the car with AC on and make sure the car DOES NOT overheat.

Good luck!

car

well the car doesnt overheat(i left it idling with a/c on full and then drove it. i called acura of manhattan and they want 80 per hour to check car- 1 hr for basic check

3-4 hors for full check w/ compression etc.......

i really want to buy car because 5000 is cheap for it..........but i also do not want to mke a mistake

If you like what you see so far and trust your instincts, go for it.
You can also so a search for "what to look for before buying a Legend" - people have asked this questions few times and good suggestions have been offered.

Search results

You have physically seen the car and driven it so you're in best position to make a decision. Again, if you like it go for it

this car scares me for some reason. I am wondering if someone botched a odometer change. 25K in 6 years is very little driving. That is only 347 miles per month as compared to 1,500 /mo the first 4 years. Unless it was a 2nd car for a single guy with no kids who only used it on dates or to go to church etc.

I don't buy this either unless there is a bad ground in the electrical system. I seem to recall reading. although I could be wrong, that the right and left sides are on seperate breakers/fuses to prevent a blown fuse from leaving you blind at night. It would only kill one side - does anyone know if this is correct?

Don't put too much trust into the Carfax reports. They are only as good as the info that goes in.

When I was looking for my 6-speed I travelled up to Seattle to check one out. It drove okay and the carfax was clean. At the last minute I had it inspected at the local Acura dealership. They said it was a real huge mess underneath. Body was out of wack, parts were hanging on by clothshangers!!! A salesman at the dealership had previously owned the car and sold it two years ago. Something happened to the car in that two years and it never made it to the carfax report. Thank goodness I paid the $94 inspection, saved me a lot of headaches and problems.
