New Legend? QUICK HELP

Hey guys, it looks as if I may have bought myself a Panda.
I put a bid in on ebay and didn't expect anything but lo and behold I was the highest bidder. So now I am the proud owner of a 1989 White Honda Legend. Obviously there are problems with a car which only costs $335.

Apparently it overheats, so I need to address that when I get the car. The main problem is I am going to have to drive the car home 190 Miles trip. So before I start that I need to get it running cool. I am not sure why it is overheating but as I said I just need to stop it temporarilly overheating so when I get the car I am going to take out the thermostat, top up the coolant and bleed cooling system and check all the fuses.
My main question is, how do I hardwire the fans. I need a very specific and hopefully relatively easy answer here. I just need to wire it up so I can get it home.
I knwo there is one or two other things I was going to say but I can't remember. I will post later if I remember. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Here is the ebay picture.

Thanks for more info guys.
I have been thinking about it some more and I have come up with a list of reasons:
Thermostat stuck closed
Fans don't come on (Fan control unit or thermosensor etc)
Air in the cooling system
BHG
Blocked Radiator
Water Pump not working

That is about all I can come up with for why it might overheat. The forst four problems in the list don't worry me too much. I can fix the first 3 and if it is a BHG I will just drive it like 50 miles and top up the coolant. (We drove Mum's G2 with a BHG for over 700 Km's)
If it is a blocked radiator then I am in trouble, likewise with the water pump but I have never heard of a G1 water pump which stopped pumping coolant. So I am hoping it isn't either of these.
Whatever the case as I said I am going to take out the thermostat and bleed the cooling system and have the fans and heater (As Frank suggested) running flat out so the car never actually gets up to normal operating temperature.

I know this is bad for the engine, but overheating seems to be a worse option.

EDIT: I found out if you bypass the thermo sensor the fans come on automatically. However I am wondering if the fan timer unit or one of the other unit fails, will the fans still come on if I jump the thermosensor?
If the fans don't come on after bypassing the thermosensor I am just going to wire it directly tothe battery with a fuse inline just in case.

Second Edit: I can not pull the connector for the fan off its mounting position. I have tried pulling it as hard as I can but it won't slide off the the thin metal sleeve. Any idea how to get it off, is there a tab or something?

I am starting to get worried, if I can't drive it home I am stuck. I am just trying to think of all reasons as to why it would overheat. I don't think it could be anything tooo serious unless hte water pump isn't working. :(
Would a fuse be ideal to hook up when hardwiring the fans?

you can just take the wires going to the fan and hook them up to the battery, make sure they are the correct polarity, pulling air through the radiator instead of pushing.

also, it would be a good idea to bring some water with you and bleed any air out of the system. change the cap as well. be sure when you bleed the air out to turn the heater on. also, when you driving back, i know it will be uncomfortable, but leave the heat on high the whole way.
Wire the fans directly to the battry hey Frank. Never thought about that, would it be best to include a fuse in between the fans and the battry just in case or will it not really matter? I am just wondering but if you did happen to have say a paper clip, would it work if you took out the relay and stuck one or two paper clips inthere depending on how the setup works? So like one paper clip goes across the front two pins and the other one goes across hte back two pins? Or am I so wrong it isn't funny :giggle:

I am going to take 12 litres of water and then probably some more just in case. As I said I will remove the thermostat and bleed the cooling system whenI get there. As for elaving the heat on :D a very good idea indeed, I will just have to see how hot the day is first, 80+ days here at the moment, hopefully it is just air in the cooling system or a bad fan.

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming need to know as much as I can before I pick up my new Legend :D

Thanks very much so it loks like I have to wot wire it at the relay? I am not much good with electrics. But I assume that if I somehow join the terminals which connect tho the rely the fans should come on?
Where is 2.7 when you need him, I am pretty sure he had his fans hard wired.
