No Amp!

1052 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  s55lear
so i bought the legend w/o an amp! (w/o knowing)

well i took the seat out tonight b.c the radio wasnt working and i wanted to make sure the amp was hooked up right, well it comes to be that there isnt an amp!

and now i have to buy a bose amp (which i have no problem doing) but i have no idea what the previous owners have done with the wiring. it seems as if they had an aftermarket amp in. i need to know what kind of hook-ups the stock bose amp has and what i will need to modify the wiring that is there now

look in my sig for my pictures and check out the wiring that i found back there

any help is greatly appreciated!

If you need an amp, I have one from a 93 LS, which should be the same as what came in the GS. Let me know if you are interested.

From your pics, it seems that you just need to plug a new amp in, it doesnt look like they cut anything.

Make sure you still have the origional BOSE speakers, if not you will need them. Aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm where BOSE speakers are 2 ohm.. The aftermarket speakers will be the same thing as using an amp with half the power. With the bose you need all the power you can get.
oh i know all that...i checked already and they're still in there

thanks
You might be better off putting in another aftermarket amp since the wiring has been modified. Maybe drive it to a local installer and let them look at the connectors and wires. They might recognize the install and reccomend the correct amp.
can i put an aftermarket amp in the premium system?

and if so what kind of mp would i need? how many watts, and all that stuff

would that work?

and theres usually another power source hooked up to the battery for an aftermarket amp, but theres not

It would work, but you would need a wiring diagram to locate the correct wires. The signal going into the BOSE amp should be at a pre amp level. The only thing I would worry about is the fact that the wires are probably not shielded, so you may get some unwanted noise.

It would probably just be easier to get a comple aftermarket system.
i want to keep bose...either i get the aftermarket amp and thats it or i will stick with bose fully, and just buy a used bose amp
You would be better off buying a used factory amp and going that route.
Otherwise, for decent sound you will need to change out the speakers as well as an amp, along with running some new wiring.
I should have looked at your pics first.
Are the RCAs tagged into the loom?
You could try installing a low power aftermarket amp that is able to handle a 2 ohm load. You wouldn't want to run much power if you intend to use the power wire from the factory harness.
I have a bunch of old school stuff laying around and you can have one if you want to get up and running.
