I currently have the Cool blue bulbs (9005 highs and 9005>9006 lows) and I love them, but I want brighter! (without shelling huge $ for HIDs)

Who has these installed? how you do like them?!?!

Anyone know the cheapest place to order these bulbs?

Check out the link below if you are not familiar with the bulbs I'm talking about...

Mine are pretty good...wish I would've done the 9005 conversion!! Fair addition of light...not HID but good! $52 for both lights!!! A bit much for light bulbs but at least they're not those really bright blue ones that look all rice...very white light, slight hint of blue!

I did the 9005-9006 conversion. I was very impressed. ($50/pair) They looked reeeeeaaaal good. But they lasted about only 2 months.
I called Sylvania and complained. (obviously I did not tell them I did the conversion.) They told me that their performance high beam halogens have a much shorter life - about 300 hours max - than low beam bulbs - 900 hrs (which they said is normal since you use high beams much less.)
They sent me a free set of SStar 9005's.

My problem may have been that I used a small sodder gun (heat) to melt out the two plastic lines in the bulb housing. The heat may have shortened their life.

I did not take any chances - I put the replacement 9005's in as 9005's and bought PIAA 9006 extreme white plus for the lows.
The PIAA's are just as white as conversion but not as bright (almost) - so if they last over a year I'll be happy

Do you think you got your 300hrs out of the converted 9005s?

2 months = 60days = 5hrs a day. I'm guessing you don't have your headlights on 5 hrs each day, so they definately burned out prematurely.
300hrs is not a long time for bulbs that cost $50! I dunno if I'm gonna do it now....but I am still tempted.

I've had my lowbeam sylvania cool blue 9005s for about 5 months without any problems so far, but I don't log alot of hours at night....

No - I did not get my 300hrs. But the light output was great. I already said what may have led to my premature burnouts - but I'm not sure. So I can't give you any additional advice.

If yours last - you'll be very happy - if not you will kick yourself!!

But realistically - from what Sylvania told me - I don't think you'll get more than 4-5 months out of the 9005's as 9006's. That cost adds up fast.:( :( :(

Thanks Double Legend for all your input and advice. I might chance it and see how it goes - at worst, if it fails within 6months I can always get the Silverstar 9006s.

Hey GoldenCoupe, how long have you had your Silverstars??

Thanks guys!
Dave

If you do the conversion - keep me posted. I'd like to know if they last. If yours last longer - we can assume my conversion method was the problem.

Will do!

might be a while before I get my hands on them though since it seems they are not sold in Canada (at least I haven't seen them here yet)......

I had cool blue, I hated them. They were neither cool nor blue. I don't know why they even called it that. They looked just like normal halogen bulbs. So I returned them and got Piaa's platinum superwhites insteads. The platinum series isn't that white, but it was **** bright, puts out a lot of light. Then I upgraded to the Piaa superplasma, they were the closest to HIDs, they were white and a hint of purple, but light output is not that good.
Now I upgraded to 6000k HIDs and I will never go back to bulbs again. Get HIDs!!!
