Wassup forum, I had a membership for awhile, but never really was on so you can say i'm new, but I have a dilemma. I am 16 going on 17 and my mom wants to buy me a car. My first choice was an Acura of some sort and I came across two different Legends in my area. Im running on a tight 1500 dollar limit, but can save up more over time.

Legend 1:
1995
151k
white sedan
"Needs some work" & Hood needs paint job,is slightly dirty for 1500 or b.o

Legend 2:
1994
107k
drk green coupe
Needs both head gaskets replaced for 1200 & is extremely clean:thumbsup:,comes with cd player and system in trunk,NO rust

I jus wanted to know which one do you guys think is the better one ?
Also how much (guestimate) would it be to get the head gasket replaced ?
Thanks.

Negotiate number 2 down to $750-900 and you'll be good to go. Headgasket prices vary. If you're going to do it yourself, you're looking at a few hundred in parts. If you're taking it somewhere, expect to pay in the range of 1500-1800 for a quality job.

That's a hard choice because a paint job could be done without body damage for 1500 to 1800 and if you aren't looking for show quality you could send the 95 to Maaco. The 94 might have lower miles but as mentioned HG jobs can run from 1500 upwards. I'd also take into consideration that owning a Legend and properly maintaining it isn't the same as owning a civic, neon etc. Take all this into consideration before purchasing. GL, If you have any more questions just ask.

Yea I'd go with the coupe. Do timming belt water pump and headgaskets now and as long as you take care of it it will last you. I have 5 legends and have only had 1 bhg so far but that's because the owner b4 me didn't take care of it.

The coupe would be nice, but damn 1500 for a head gasket ! Thats outrageous, but theres also a 91 sedan with 140k for 600 but needs transmission work, and lastly another 91 sedan with 157,470 for 2g or b.o and has a small hole in muffler and a/c dosent work.

This is a very big decision that's why I suggested you think on it, don't act with haste! If your going to be the one paying for the maintenance/repair's these car's are pricey and finding a mechanic who can properly diagnose and repair them is hard. If you drive a lot and being young I know you will cause I did your looking at 70.00 or more a week in just gas. I'm not trying to discourage you just giving you the honest truth. These are great cars but since your so young may be over your head.

Thanks BIGBOY, now that I think about I may be out of my league getting a Legend.I jus really always had love for them ever since my brother had an 88 sedan. They are expensive and $70 a week on gas is waay to much for me plus insurance. I really will have to think on it and see what's best for me, but I WANT an Acura so idk I will have to see, thanks everyone !

If I were you save up more money if you are really set on a legend. If you purchase a 5 or 6 speed they are better on gas. I wasn't trying to discourage you at all man just helping you make the right descision and your welcome.

Its cool, you didn't discourage me you were just telling the truth and helped me realize it, Atleast I got the heads up before I bought one and couldnt pay for it to get fixed :hide: lol..but I definitely do see a Legend somewhere in my future.

Keep saving and get a nicer Legend

i would suggest that you keep saving for a little while and get a nicer one with some service records. If the car has excellent service records then the miles on the Legend should not be a problem. Like the other members mentioned the HG can be a high cost like around $1800.00 for a good job done right at a shop. Then you would want to change the timing belt and water pump. Good luck on finding a nice Legend!
