I purchased a set of used emblems to badge the rear of my naked Legend and have a few questions on preparation and installment.

1. Being that they are used, the clearcoat is worn off a bit and I would like to add a nice layer of it on them. Any products recommended?

2. What is used to paste the emblems?

3. And the most important part, is there a diagram showing the exact OEM positions for the emblems on 1994 and 1995 Coupes? Meaning, how far apart are the L E G E N D letters, their height above the keyhole, and the position of the upper left Acura emblem.

I have OCD and want this done right. If any of you have time and a ruler, I would appreciate some numbers or a nice little diagram showing me this. :D

I swear I did many searches and nothing answered the above questions.

I already took pictures of this with a ruler. :D

Dad has a 94 LS coupe and I re-did the LEGEND letters on his trunk because they were too high. I'm not 100% sure if I got the height right, but I am 100% sure I got the spacing correct because when you buy brand new emblems they come with a foam guide.

Here are the pics:

Good Luck.

The "L" and "d" of Legend each begin 14cm. from their respective tail light.
All of the letters are spaced 3cm. apart except the "g" and "e" which are 4cm. apart.
The letters are spaced 10cm. from the trunk's bottom.

I absolutely love your coupe. It's one of my favorites.
We should meet up sometime after mine is out of the body shop (vandalism).

Cheers,

Thank you both for giving me the exact measurements on the emblem positions! 91LSMAN, man, you went ALL OUT :D with the measuring tape and I really appreciate the photos you took; it is just what I needed.

Anyone care to answer questions 1 and 2? :p

Again, I'm really sorry to hear about what happened to your car. I hope everything is working out for you. You have one of the best looking Legends on the boards; I am envious of you.

Thanks! When I saw the car on eBay, I knew it had to be mine. It is a dream come true to own a Legend. You cannot believe how much I enjoy driving this car.

Definitely, we should meet up someday and plan something. I would love to do that and I look forward to it.

NO problem. I took those pics a while back when another member needed it, and I never delete pics. :)

I don't know how you would re-clear them. Neve done anything like that.

When I re-badged my Legend from gold to silver and re-did the rear of Dad's Legend I bought new emblems both times and when you buy new they have adhesive already on them.

I used a plastic epoxy on one of my emblems about a month or more ago, and have since then experienced snow, rain, and extreme low temps, and it is still solid, with just a little bit of flexibility so it doesn't break off.
There is more info on this too. Some guys have used 3M automotive tape too.

I can't remember the brand of epoxy right this second, but it looked like 2 syringes side by side.

This method may keep the letters a fraction closer to the body then the OEM.

Use all weather 3M double sided adhesive tape. The stuff is thick and light grey with red vinyl protector wrapped on a spool. I buy the stuff at Staples all the time.

I've done it with the tape (on my sister's 91 coupe). If you cut it right, the thickness is not an issue. If you prep it right, it will create a strong bond. I'd never attach something to my car with 2 part epoxy b/c if you don't get it perfect the 1st time, you're screwed.

I dont know if anymore answered your q about clear coating them again but from my experience ive painted various things and clear coated em using a clear coat u can buy from any major parts store or home depot, lowes etc... i used duplicolor clear coat and i believe krylon makes a clear coat as well. it came with instructions but its pretty cut n dry. i cleaned up my stuff with dish soap to make sure no wax or anything is on it. make sure they're super dry as well. then u apply light even coats till u get the desired effect. id usually let my stuff sit at least 24hrs before using it to make sure the clear coat adheared right. then just to make it even nicer and pop even more id wax the stuff the next day and make em really nice.

hope that helps. if u need any more info lemme know :)

P.S. ~ not to jack this thread but i read someone here bought the gold badging? i was wanting to do that this summer but i didnt know a good cheap place to get them at. also if anyone knows where u can score the jdm gold from grill with the honda H and the rear gold Hcause i think that would be nice.

Quick Help, I want to re-do my trunk lid, but I'm not sure what it takes to get the old letters off, and I'm afraid to damage the paint.

How did you remove the letters, and what did you do to prep the paint prior to putting the new letters on?

Sergio I love your coupe esp. the rims they have a skyline look to them with the six spokes. What color are they? They look grey.

Personally I like the car debadged but if your gonna do it do it right. I'm just curious how much did you pay for the used set? and how much are the badges new?

Thanks for the comments. I still need to get the front bumper fixed and all lights hooked up; I will do so after the rains. The rims are sort of light-grey.

I actually had purchased the used gold emblems off eBay for $115.00 shipped but then later sold them. I don't know what I was thinking when I purchased a used set of gold emblems. I actually made a small profit selling them on eBay. :) I later purchased a brand-new set of silver emblems from Tim over at Hondacuraworld.com for $131.90 shipped. Tim is awesome, by the way.

I can believe how much you enjoy driving a Legend. I went to Kansas for a week and had to drive GM's the entire time. OMG I was about to shoot myself. The first thing I did when I got home was sit in my car, I didn't drive anywhere I was too tired. But just taking in the aroma of my Legend made me feel at home more than walking into my house.

:) For Christmas I sat in my car and talked to it. I told it what it was getting for Christmas and the New Year. At least I don't feel crazy know. Sometimes I just go outside and sit in it, don't drive anywhere, just sit there.
