Question about metal black box found in the trunk

2439 Views 20 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  whyteLegend
I was looking at my friends 1991 Acura Legend 4Door LS and I noticed that he had some black box (has ridges like an amp)held down in brackets. What is this thing he has no idea and nor do I. He thinks it has something to do with the built in phone that came with the car does it?

on the driver's side is the amp, on the passenger side is the abs unit
well I have a 1994 GS and my amp is behind the rear seat hidden by carpets, are you sayin that in 1991 it was in the trunk. the unit Im talking about is right in front of the rear driver brake lights in the shape of a brick but a little longer.

I think he might be right. I have one as well. It's right under the rear deck lid.

And my car did have the phone system.

yeah i don't know what that is, my bad
The 1991-1993 LS (Bose, not in the L model) sedans had an 80 watt amp in the location you describe. It is ridged and held in place by a steel bracket. Lots of these had static, so a 200 watt amp was added in place of these for free by the dealer. In later legend models, they came with just the 200 watt amp behind the rear seat.
It's for the built-in car phone...I have one too.
Its the
Amp!

This "Black Box" you mentioned, is the AMP. I don't know whether it's your OEM ar an addiotional one. But I can show you a pic where it located is and what's behind our back seats. In this pic you can see the OEM Bose Amp ;) -Mike

Behind The Rear Seat

OEM Bose Amp
Here a pic, how's the OEM Bose Amp look like. If you're unsure, check of its sticker on the back side of your Amp.

Mike, the little box you drew would be for the interior..correct? The box he's talking about is in under the rear deck lid accessed through the trunk. It almost looks like an amplifier.

When I get home tonight, if no one has already posted a picture, I'll take a pic of mine and post it.

Yeah, I'll try and post a pic of it. There is a box located in my trunk that is for my old school car phone. I believe that it attaches to my cell phone antenna. I assumed that this was the "black box" he was talking about. At least now I know here the factory amp for the Bose is.
