Does anyone know if there is a way to reprogram the ecu to give better performance? I was doing some research and found someone that did 100hp gain for a lotus espirit. I couldnt find any modded ecu's for the G1 but was wondering if anyone knew any possible ways to DIY. Or maybe I can just send it to some company to reprogram it? How much would that cost? Anyone done this before? Approximately how much gain? Is it worth it?

Your only option would be a Hondata Dealer, but even then your limited.

The Best option is Piggy Back EMU or Standalone :

Good Piggy Backs :

Greddy E-Manage Blue (cheap and lots of flexability)
Greddy E-Manage Ultimate (exspensive but close as you can get before going 100% standalone)

Good Standalone's :

AEM EMS (The Best but very exspensive)
Megasquirt (Very powerful and cheap but not user friendly)

Stay away from the S-AFC Controllers, they are simply a voltage clamp that modifys the MAF or MAP Sensor Voltage the STOCK ECU See's to add fuel, they are VERY Limited and wont net any gains with a NA C27 Motor since Spark is what really needs to be address on the NA C27 Setup, and the S-AFC cant control spark.

are you smoking?!?!?!

there are a couple of companies that will chip this ecu.
dinan i believe is one...
python/venom the other of the main ones?

and for a standalone or piggyback www.034efi.com is the way to go
No I'm not smoking....

Before you come on here and discredit the information I'm giving do some research first and check out how long I have been in this game before you step on my toes, I dont talk bull I know what I'm talking about.

Dinan does NOT chip the G1 ECU's, they never have and most likly never will. They have only chipped G2 ECU's never G1's. And the Gains were not impressive at all.

Venom does NOT chip G1 ECU's either, they offer a PIGGYBACK VENOM 400 MODULE that simply changes a few valves and tricks the stock ECU much like the S-AFC.

No, they had one for the g1, I should have gotten it when I saw it. I don't believe you can buy them anymore...but I could be wrong. I haven't been able to find them.
FOR REALS! NOOOOOOOOOHHH!!! I WANT ONE! I WAAAAANT ONE! AHHHHH! NOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH! SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME ITS NOT TRUE! WHY DID THEY STOP MAKING IT!?

They didn't really stop making it. They'll make it if you can pull a rabbit out of a hat and get in touch with Willie Johnson at Pure Performance Products.

Here's an old thread.

Some guys with G2s have been trying to reach him recently. He did eventually reply, but seems to have fallen off the face of the earth again.

With that said, my experiences with him have always been positive and have purchased from him twice. This was a few years ago though.

If you are really seriose about tuning it go to PGMFI.com they have a program there called turbo edit to help program OBDo ecus'. O and Steveman09 know his shit, so listen to what he is saying.

oh thank god you save my life. thanks... Ill look into it. How good is the bayou chip for the G1? Does anyone have dyno proofs?

it sounds like you guys are talking about what i want to know about, but you guys are talking in the stratosphere, WAY over my head.

my brother owns a lexus 470 truck, and their ecu is programmable. unhook the battery for a few minutes and reconnect. however you drive in each gear, or you go through the gears, it programs how your engine responds. so if you drive aggressively, it sets it up for aggressive driving, same with lightfooted driving, it sets it up accordingly.

is this something that is possible with ours? if so, how.

uuuhhhh yea.
man thats sytems been out for quite some time.
discconnect the battery for about 5-10minutes.
reconnect, start it up......NOW BEFORE YOU DRIVE :
look at the ecu there's a red and yellow led.
your gonna look at the yellow on once it stops flashing or goes out the idle has adjusted.

now you can drive hard.
if you want you can use S mode.

wouldnt that mess up your tranny... especial if your using it for hard driving. Tell me if Im wrong but I tried that once going uphill at like 65mph and it ruined my tranny so I ended up doing a swap.

if your tranny is working fine, it shouldnt. all it will do is make the ecu know how to drive in s mode, you will also need to reprogram drive mode the same way i believe. i believe they are different sections on the ecu motherboard.

okay then... what does this mean? what is the real purpose of the S-mode then? Anyone? I thought the S-mode was for uphill use only when the D-mode is no longer reliable. But speaking of a good tranny? You do have a point my tranny wasnt in the greatest condition at the time. However I assumed it because after I used it for uphill running at 65mph+ my tranny broke down.

I don't know about the S mode and D mode because I drive a G2, but I'm guessing it has something to do with different shift points and fuel trim etc.

Guys, all ECU's learn how a someone drives the car. You don't even really have to disconnect the battery although that makes it learn faster. It's called short term and long term fuel trim; as well as spark advance. If you drive really hard your ecu will learn to richen the mixture/spark timing/shift pattern. It does however affect how a car drives to a great degree. If you have to unhook the battery of a car you're working on and then put put around on the test drive, you will definately have a customer comeback, and have a hell of a time explaining to them that if they drive how they like for a day or two it will all smooth out.
