Radiator

Hey everyone my mom's boyfriend has a 1990 LS sedan.
My mom called me and told me that the radiator blew out.
Anyone know how much it should cost to replace?

P.S. Anyone on the forums in the NY area knows that it is [email protected] near impossible to find Legend parts at salvage yards.

Also before this happened their car looked sweet so when they get it fixed I will take pics of it and post.

Thanks

then look up "acura legend radaitor" on google and you'll come up with multiple places that sell it for $118.
Thanks for the fast replies I will check it out for them.

Hey Buk I used your info to do the grill did you check it out?
I just paid $240 for a new radiator that listed over $400.

IMO, list prices are artificially inflated. Call me nuts, but I couldn't sell anyone a radiator for $400 and be able to sleep at night. Maybe that's the reason I'm poor but well rested.

I almost went with an ebay special, but I figured if anything was wrong with it, i.e. shipping damage, etc. it would be a hassle to clear up.

When I got the new radiator home, I noticed "Made in China" on the box. Redi-Rad or some brand like that. Lifetime warantee (haha).

Now I'm nervous. We'll see if it's any good.

I purchsed it from a wholesaler that my father used to buy from when he had his shop so I have no worries that they'd take it back if it proves to be defective.

While you're replacing the radiator you might as well change the thermostat and inspect all the cooling hoses and replace them as required.

I've read in a Honda service magazine that Honda coolant should be used. It contains a lower level of silicates (or none at all?) which have been reported to cause premature water pump seal failures do to its abrasive nature. Distilled or low mineral water is also recommended.

I still use prestone and tap water.........

Got the old, original radiator out this morning. Lots of stuff has to be taken out of the way before the radiator can come out. No worries here.

The Made-in-China radiator is a POS, IMO. Has that small problem that others have noted here - the radiator cap bung is too small for the stock radiator cap. I don't want to hassle with trying to find a cap that fits (it probably doesn't exist in any parts application catalog) so it goes back Monday morning.

It pays to check these things out before you install it!

BTW, I can with good conscience recommending NOT going to Sunnyvale (CA) Acura for parts. $65 total for an oil filter, 1 gal. Honda coolant, a thermostat and seal. My ankles are caloused.
Okay, returned the Ready-Rad radiator and got a Modine at my local radiator shop for $186. "Regular" sized radiator cap, etc. I just wish I could find a radiator that didn't come with the transmission cooler in the lower tank. Just extra crap to get in the way during the installation......

I don't feel much better about where the radiator was made though; Thailand vs. China <shrug>.

I do feel good about breaking-in my "new" cooling system with Honda coolant and distilled water. But at $14 a gallon (I need 4.5 quarts for a 50/50 mix) and the mileage I put on my car every year, I may just go back to old Prestone.
