Ok first off there is great news for my 91 legend LS. First of all I finally got a job....applause(I've been unemployed for the past 4 months and I finally got a job at radioshack!(my dad helped with payments.."thanks dad!")) Now the money is gonna kick in.OK my car is at rougly 141,000 and stupid me never thought about the timing belt. 2 days ago I talked to my mechanic about it and he got me paranoid and scared!!!! I asked if he was certified to do a timing belt because I thought it was over due(stupid me it's been over due since 90,000 miles) anyway he gasped asking me "what???it's never been done??" and i said "I'm not sure if the previous owner took care of as I bought the car at 130,000 miles". I asked him how much and he told me $650!!!!! I gasped and he even said the dealer charges $1700!!!Is this true or is he blowing smoke???Anyway, with ignorance, i said "Nah, that is alot of money I will just fix it when it breaks" and he said "if you do you will have massive engine damage!!!" I totally freaked out and lost as I love my Legend so much so I went home to my dad moping.Anyway the good news is we checked the receipts the previous owner gave us (great guy by the way) and I found a receipt that made me so relieved...replaced timing belt, water pump, belt tension. YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This service was done at 81,000 miles...YESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!So that means I have untill 170,000 miles to get another timing belt done!!!(I think?!?) Anyway the car was well maintained untill I received it..An oil change every single 3,000 miles since purchase. I saw tune-up during the course of the car's life and the 60,000 105,000 and 120,000 mile service has been done!!!!Yes!!!!!!!! Now I want to keep the trend going! At 141,000 miles what should be done???am i right about the timing belt at 170,000?? The car been driven roughly 15,000 miles since the last tune-up. Can some one please give me a plan on what I should do based on mileage???Thanks I got to take my car in to get the SRS serviced(light won't go off) and get a new ICU. Other than that now problems!!!:D

yup, same here, paid $1200 for the TB and WP job at Acura. I suggest you keep in contact with this mechanic and take the car back to him at 170k.

just pay for labor...

This is what I did... I called up Acura of Agusta and bought everything for a 90,000 service, water pump, air filter, cabin filter, all three belts, HONDA ATF, coolant, oil filter, fuel, filter, etc. etc. etc. Then I took all the parts to an Acura dealer who gave me the usual lip about how he couldn't gurantee the parts because they were "aftermarket" (anything not bought at their dealership is...), but did all the labor.

Total, including parts, labor, tax
$800.

Since the last service was done at 120K miles, I'd say you're good till 150K. Regular oil changes should do for now.

When you get to 150K, you can change all fluids, air filter, spark plugs, check all belts etc. After that you should be all set till 170K or 180K when you get your timing belt and water pump done.

Good luck!

Hi I just had my Timing belt done

I paid

Labour $300

Timing Belt $70

Water pump $170

Tensioner $80

Taxes $40

-------------------------------------------

Total $660

So $650 is ok if he replaces all the above items.

Make sure u get him to replace all the above items, u will save on labour in the long run. Else it will cost u $300 every time.

BTW all original Acura parts, whatever that means.

Plus 1 year, 6000 mile warranty on parts & labour.

Take care

Water pump/timing belt package ran somewhere around $650 if I am not mistaken. I can look at the receipts. Anyway, I don't know who your mechanic is, but I would recommend Honnda/Accurate specialists down in Littleton. They do great work, charge good prices, and will give you a loaner if you need it. They are off of Sante Fe and Highlands Ranch Boulevard. Holla back if you want more info.

Definitely Acura specialists

Infinite is right.

Definitely use a Honda Acura specialist. Mine was an all round import specialist.

Take care

you know the beuty of a mechanic screwing up on your previous car (I.E. Destroyed) and then owing you a sh*tload of money? you get all this stuff done for free on your legend (actually I never knew the timing belt replacement was that expensive since my mechanic has to do it ofr free or get his A$$ sued big time)

stevieray,Big Mac value set is 500 yen about $4.25...But it tastes a hulluva lot better and it actully looks like the picture!! Plus the USAF gives me a cost-of-living expenseto offset the so called high prices! Also car insurance is cheap here to I pay about $490 a year for full coverage! And I've made use of it too on a prior car they paid out in 3 days!!
