I just got home from a GIANT road trip! Here's a map. I started in northern Utah on Friday night, came south, and then did that loop to Arizona, California, Nevada, and back to Utah.
Details: Came home to St. George from college on Friday night, and took my grandma to Phoenix the following morning (around 7 hours). From there, I was on my own.
Trip highlights - with pics of course:
Crossing over Hoover Dam on the way to Phoenix was really cool. Here it is behind me:
Made a pit at the "Gila Bend Airport" alongside the highway b/c they had some cool old planes.
I headed down the 85 from Phoenix to I-8, and paralleled the northern border of Mexico as I headed west toward California. I passed through Yuma and knew I was close to Mexico, so I decided to take a look. I went through the border crossing with no problems whatsoever, and spent a little bit of time in the town of Algodones, Sonora, Mexico. It was fun in there! I bought some Chiclets from a lady for a quarter, and walked around a bit. I love Mexico. I wanted to find a good carne asada taco but decided I'd better hit the road instead. So I headed back to the ole U.S. of A. Here are the Mexico pics!...
^^ Some crazy drivers backing up into the lane. Gotta love it!
^^ The border checkpoint
^^ The proof is in the ALTO (STOP) sign. hehe
^^ Lots of the businesses have their names in English as well as Spanish.
^^ That lady and her daughter in the right side of the pic are the ones I bought my Chiclets from!
^^ The line to get back in the country was 1/2 hour wait. Not too bad -- a lot easier than getting back through from Tijuana for example. People would come up to your car and sell you stuff while you were waiting.
Next stop was also right off I-8 - it's a little landmark in Felicity, CA called "The Center of the World Pyramid." Rumored to be the center of the world (how would they know?), I had to take a look. Here it is:
And the sign:
Random pics from the drive -- one off Hwy 111, and the other in Ocotillo (both right off I-8).
This is how the weather was most of the way: RAIN!
Continued the cruise to San Diego, and I met up with some friends who were also in SoCal at the time. Also saw TurboViper and checked out his "new" (sweet) '73 Datsun. It was RAINY the whole way. My first attempt at a "night" shot taken at Cush Acura in Escondido:
The following morning, I went to the Oceanside Beach and got some more pics. There was nobody around, and a small area with no curb blocking the sand, so I backed the car in for a quick pic and got busted! lmao Some guy yelled at me and told me to get off the sand. I did in a hurry! Here are the beach pics.
Here's the "sand" pic I got in trouble for taking!
Went to Ramona (east San Diego county) to see some other friends this morning and got some pics at Mussey Grade Road. It would be a cool place to make a car commercial.
Came home to Utah after all that… and I'm tired! My car is 50 miles away from turning 160,000 now. My check engine light comes on after about an hour of freeway driving. It was doing it intermittently for awhile, but now is pretty constant. Any ideas?
Hope you all enjoyed the pics. I sure had fun taking them! lol
