first and foremost you dont wanna try to do it REALLY fast. you could end up hurting the car. second. get a heat gun or soemthing and heat the paint near the edge of the wheel well...this will make it a bit softer and less prone to cracking since body paint doesn't have the flexible catalyst like the bumpers do.

 

Use a wooden bat...seriously. This is the method I used to roll my fenders and it worked great. I have a link to it somewhere that gives you very detailed info and pics. Give me a bit to dig it up, but I'm pretty sure that I put it in the FAQ that Leon created. Also, some tips: You can wrap the bat in a cloth to cushion the lip a bit which will help reduce cracking or scratching. And, as already mentioned, definitely use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the paint to make it more flexible and less prone to cracking.

 

18 x 8 @ 40mm? Didn't know you can actually fit it.

I'm looking into getting 18 x 8 @ 52mm... i hope I don't get any rubbing then.. will probably stick to 225 width tires... although I would love 235 or 245

i could fit 18x8.5 with a +38 offset and a 245/35/18.......BUT IT WOULD RUB OR STICK OUT.

I don't care if you got the rims for the best deal in the world....is it really worth the trouble?

calm down I used a bat on my car with 17x7 w/40mm offset and it worked great. So, insert the bat on the top of the tire just under the whell well. Gently roll the bat as it presses againt the inner fender well and you will notice the inner steal bending inward, which is what you want. You can also use the handle on the bat depending on how low the car is. Also, jacking the car may be an option.

This was done on an Integra but it's exactly the same for our cars. The hardest part was of it was getting the initial bend in the lip, but it seems like you took care of that with your hammer. So the rest should be gravy. Just use the bat for more leverage and to smoothen out the look. Good luck. Let me know if you need any more tips.

Even with a 52 mm offset? Calculate it... an 8" width with that offset will fit with no rubbing issues IF a 225 width tire is used. I understand that I will be running a risk putting a 235 or a 245 width rubber.

I always understood that a 7.5" wheel wit a 45mm offset is the ideal size with no fitment issues with a 225 width tire. I am simply going ot go 8" wide but increase the offset by 52mm which should leave the face of the wheel at the same position (+- 1 mm) as the 7.5" widht at 45mm.

if a 18x8 with 40 offset fits after rolling fender, then 18x7.5 with 40 offsets and with 225 tires should fit after rolling fender right? and what if my car has a 1.75 drop in front and 1.5 in back will it still fit cuz thats how low my car is right now?

i was going to do the same...
i bought 18" with 225/40...
it's not really rubbing but when i have three fat persons sit in the back and take wide turns fast, it will rub a little. so i will do it as mr. helper said:bowdown: thanks for da help

How much is your car lowered?

I want to know becuase I would like to fit 19x8 wheels with 40 offset also, with my car lowered 2.25" lol. Hmm I was thinking I could get the offset increased by having them milled out to 45+ maybe more if possible...but if it works by just rolling the fenders works, why not.

Actually the ideal offset for 7.5 inch wide rims w/ 225/40 would be +48mm

& 7 inch wide rims w/ 215/45 would be +45mm

8 inch wide rims w/ 225/40 or 235/35 would be +50mm or higher.

I'm running +48 18X7.5 w/ 225/40/18's lowered 2 inches all around. I only rub on very very hard turns. So 18X8 +52mm on 225/40 is acceptable.

But it all really depends on the rim & tire co. Some sa +40mm and its really+43mm some tire side wall are alot higher than other brands of the same size.

No, I'm not kidding. This is the exact method I used with perfect results and obviously, plenty of other people have done it as well. I have no rubbing issues whatsoever, even with 3 people sitting in back and a fully loaded trunk taking hard twisties through the mountains. And on top of that, I can switch to wider tires, so I see no downside to taking this approach. But hey, it's your car.

i just put on the rims.. it fits perfect..
it was 18x7.5 with 40 offset or 42 offset i forgot..
the tires were 225 40...
the drop is 1.75 in the front and 1.5 in the back..
no scrubbing at all..
