shaking during acceleration

When I am on the highway doing 60mph + and accelerate, the steering wheel shakes. almost like bad motor mounts or something. But when I accelerate from a stop or even while im driving slower, the motor does not shake when i accelerate. It accelerates fine and drives fine, just has developed somewhat of a shake ONLY while accelerating. Any thoughts?

Possibly a bad or going bad 1/2 axle. Check the inner boots to see if they are leaking grease. If they are then one or both could have leaked out all the grease and now is causing the shaking while accelerating.

Did you by chance replace that axle with a Re-manufactured unit??? If so that is most likely your problem.... Those Re-man units are known for being crap right out of the box.... Trust me, I know all about it first hand....

Of course it's re-man, I am not going to spend $200+ for an Acura axle. I have only used re-man axles in my cars, never had a problem before.

After getting a new rack and pinion unit, a new cv BOOT (axles were both checked and toild they were fine) and balanced tires, I am getting a bad shake between 55-65mph only. If I go above 65, the shake literally disappears, and is ONLY apparent when between 55-65. I have new brakes and rotors all around, and my mechanic said the shocks, wheel bearings, cv axles, springs, and balljoints are fine. I am thinking that my tranny mount is the cause, but cannot tell definatively. Can someone advise?

When was the last time you changed your tranny fluid? Sounds like your torque converter is trying to lock up and can't. Had a similar problem about 2 years ago---drained and refilled w/3 qts of Honda ATF, drove about 600 miles and then did it again. Smooth as a baby's azz ever since. Give it a try---

Now my car is worse!! The shaking isn't only on accelerating, but while just driving, or sitting still!! When I am sitting still it feels like the idle is too high, but it is around 700 rpm, Any ideas? I am going to get another axle installed on Monday, but what about the shaking while just sitting still?? If I put the car in nuetral the shaking stops!! Is this just coincedence with the axle being changed, cause I don't know why an axle would have an effect of shaking when sitting still....

cars are like that Mastervtec.
bring it in for something and another problem pops up right away that doesn't have nothing to do with the first problem.
i guess its just your bad luck:giggle:
that shaking is from your motor mount, forget about the axle
anyway you know my number give me a call. i should have a couple of motor mounts.

So now we think my axle isn't bad? How much does motor mounts cost to get put in?? Blast this car right now!!

$100 to put in a set of motor mounts:(
Hmm, I asked my mechanic friend to look up the rates, and it says the book calls for 6 hours @ $55 an hour.... I don't know! I will have money by the end of the month to do it. I looked under my car at my "new" axle and it has some grease on it, like it is leaking it?! Oh well, I guess I will have my mechanic look at it on Monday.

If you need a hand with anything, I just put a new axle in and haven't had any problems. It was a NAPA unit and worked real well. If it's your motor mount, I'd think any shop could put that in for less $, come on...6 hours! You can PM me if you need a hand, I could take a look.
HELLO! I haven't seen you on here before! I must see your car!! We need a little Utah meet sometime, would you come?

About the axle, my mechanic friend will put the new axle in free, and for the motor mounts, he won't charge me that, that is just what his book says. Are you ever near 4100 South State? I work right around there...

bad inner joint on one or both axles. tell your mechanic to get another set of axles.

do not run the car in gear while wheels are up in the air. this will damage the wheel bearings and axles too.
