could it be coolent leakage? Maybe your radiator is busted. Do you mean you see smoke comming out of the sides of your hood or the engine it self? --=Keith

Your inner CV boot might have been ripped open, and most of the grease splat over your exhaust manifod, that's why you get the smoke. I experience it once. The smell should be like burned oil smell. And don't worry about the engine, just get your CV boot replaced before the CV joint goes south.

First off It could be the cv joint. But be carefull cause it could be a cracked valver cover, antifreeze leaking or many other things. First thing you need to do is often check your oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, wiper fluid, etc often. If you notice any fluid loss at all thats a first step. If it's the cv joint you may hear a ticking when turning left or right and you may not. It wouldn't be neccessary to use a remover as it will all just burn off anywayz. get under your car and check the inner and outer boots of both CV boots. If its cracked simply put a new one on. Not to much work. But if you just replaced them I would recommend checking everything and not drive your engine hard if its smoking until you get it fixed.

the first thing you need to check for is a leaking differential seal. If you run the differential out of oil, you will be looking a serious repairs. The differential seal is a common failure on Legends, at 80-100K...look for oil on underside of passenger side cross brace. This oil has a strong smell. the differential fluid level should be check asap...plug on right hand side, drain beneath....I would bet this is your problem...do not wait...this repair is fairly expensive ($10 for the seal and 300 to pull the differential and put it in!), but a lot cheaper than the alternative. lol

Yea!, watch out for this problem.. I had a differential leak and my car completely broke down on the way back from Big Bear. Costed about 250 for a flat bed tow truck and 400 for the new dif.

I doubt you would get a new differential for 4-5 hundred...that sounds more like used or possibly rebuilt. I bought a used tranny for my son's car and they were willing to sell the differential that came with it for an additional 200, since I was buying the tranny anyway(didn't need it tho)...When I had my seal replaced it took a certified Honda guy half a day to do....(5 hours and he had the right tools and lift and trans jack). Dropping and replacing the diff. is the hard part, seal & labor cost quoted for seal replacement at Acura was $530....so I don't think $400 is likely to get you a new differential and installed (maybe just the part)
