sometimes this used to just happen, but last nite it got worse, well it was doing it for a long time. i had spent the whole day in my garage, (relaxing and taking it slow) i had ripped the back seats out, run a power cable for amps through to the boot, new battery terminals, installed my front speakers properly with the crossovers and tweeters, and just as i was putting it all back together and cleaning up last night to go have dinner, i close my door and this sort of ticking/struggling noise started again, this time i was able to source it, and it seems its under my seat.
its like the seat motor is trying to do something, the seat still works fine (forward/back/and lean forward/back) but the noise continues while im moving the seat, but does not effect it,

THE WEIRD thing is when i open my driver door it would stop, when i close the door it would start. BUT if i opened the door, then just closed the door switch with my finger, it wouldnt start, only when the door was acctually closed.

The problem seems to stop after i go for a quick drive, i just have no idea what was going on, it was hard to see under the seat if i had to be sitting on it with the door closed :)

any ideas, just go ahead. i will go down and check now while the problem isnt there, just to see if anything looks abnormal under there.

thanks a lot,
mike.

It's a coupe, correct? If so, then I suspect it is the seat belt presenter. It'll present the seat belt when the door is closed, and pull it back when the door is open. It isn't controlled by the door switch (but rather, I think, with the door latch). It's a motor and cable operated system, and you can unplug the motor easily.

yeah its a coupe, i dont have programmable seats, so i cant save positions.

i never knew anything about this seat belt presenter thing, but from what you say it seems as if thats what is happening. is there a way to disconnect it? its doing it again today, it almost seems it does it when low voltage (ie it was doing it last nite after i spent whole day working on car + listening to the radio, and i have been doing the same today, car still turns over, but maybe there is a set low voltage, or maybe its just stuffed :)

so can i disconnect it?

thanks al ot.

i just went and had another look at the car, and it does seem to be that arm, which i guess is meant to put itself up when i get in the car (never has) so what happens, if i put the seat belt arm down like i have lately coz i have been working in the car, it makes the noise coz the motor is trying to work and push it up, but it cant, but if i have it in the normal position, there is no noise because it doesnt need to try and put it up.

if you cant understand what im saying, i have fixed it to the point i know why its happening and how to stop it.

thanks a lot guys
