how do you figure?

both or 1 set doesnt matter, your not giving the speakers the right ohm, they wont sound as good.
i may be wrong here but i have a little bit of experience in car audio. if he used one set whichever is the factory speakers would be louder than the other ones which could be compensated for by the fader control on the radio. now if he were stepping from say 4 ohm speakers to 2 ohm speakers and the radios amp isnt 2 ohm stable then yes he could have some problems. but his amp is used for running 2 ohm speakers, so the only thing that will happen when he steps up to 4 ohm speakers is that it will reduce the amplifiers output but it would sound fine, you would just have to turn it up more to get it to play as loud as the factory set. which is negligible anyway since our radios can get pretty loud. anyone feel free to correct me if i am wrong but i have a good feeling i am right. look at subwoofer amplifiers. they can usually run any ohm load down to 1 or 2 ohms sometimes even down to a half ohm. ohm loading. good stuff.

oh and you can really convert 4 ohm speakers to 2 ohm. its a characteristic of the speaker, not something thats adjustable. but dont worry about it just replace all your speakers and you will be fine.

yeah

but it would be for no reason. why limit yourself to the small few speakers that come in 2 ohms when he could just get regular speakers and he will be fine? there is no advantage to getting two ohm speakers except his amplifiers power output would be increased with 2 ohm speakers. but to me i would rather be able to choose whatever brand and model of speaker i like. go with 4 ohm, it will be fine. sound quality will definitely not be affected.

Or he could simply go with Infity Kappas or another 2 Ohm speaker. ;)
Or you could run a 2/4 channel amp and rerun speaker wire throughout the car and have all the options you want. Just get a line-out converter, hook it up to the signal to the rear speakers. Run the power wires accordingly, 8g would probably suffice. Run all your signal wires and you're done. Though you would probably lose functionality of the fader and whatnot.

hey

yeah he could do that too but i am thinking if he had to ask a question about ohm loading then he probably isnt in to high power audio systems and would just be happy with a set of good 4 ohm aftermarket speakers

actually, it's a better fit to get 6-3/4" fronts. also, for 6x9 rears, anything that's decent will have a big magnet/basket. those will hit a piece of metal in the rear deck. to fix that, you'll need a dremel and a metal cutting bit to cut out about 1/4" to 1/2" piece to clear the speakers.

i put Polk Audio DB675's up front and matching 6x9's in the back and it sounded great - but that was on an Alpine Amp and after a 2-3 week break-in period. they don't sound all that good until you break them in - then they'll loosen up and get a nice, full sound.
