Spend any time in the 2017 Honda Civic Type R and you'll quickly realize that it's probably the best sport compact car money can buy.

However, not all of my esteemed colleagues at AutoGuide.com were so easily convinced, quickly pointing out the proverbial gauntlet of dual-purpose rides that came before it.
