Our SRS system is sometimes not quite easy to handle in their repair or maintenance. If you have never worked or repaired this system, then it would be better to perform it by your Acura/Honda dealer. Otherwise when you notice some rules of our SRS system and you think to perform this work at your dealer is too expensive, you can do it by yourself. But be warned, it could be a tricky work. If you decide to remove the driver Airbag yourself, make sure to follow the procedure step by step. Either in a service manual or in this DIY, before removing the steering wheel. Otherwise you'll end up with a loaded air bag in your face and it costs you a lot of money. I did it several times, so please trust me... It will work ;) -Mike

Material
All you need is a T30 Torx nut and rachet to remove the Airbag itself. And at least you need a simple phillips screwdriver to remove the small lid panel under the steering wheel.

SRS ATTENTION
============
ALL SRS CABLES ARE YELLOW MARKED AND SRS RELATED ! BEFORE YOU START TO UNPLUG ANY OF THE YELLOW CONNECTORS PLUGS, FOLLOW THE MANUAL ON DISCONNECTING POWER FIRST!!!

The SRS unit includes a Self-Diagnosis Function. When the ignition switch is turned ON, the SRS warn light comes ON and goes out after approx. 8 sec's, if the system is operating properly. If a fault is detected in a sensor, SRS unit, inflator or their circuits, the SRS warning light in the instrument panel will remain ON while driving.

Disable SRS System
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then disconnect the positive battery cable. Wait 3 min's.
3. For the driver air bag:

3a. Remove the access panel lid below the air bag assy on the steering wheel and remove the short connector (red).
3b. Disconnect the connector between the air bag and cable reel.
3c. Connect the red short connector of the air bag side of the connector.

4. Skipped Issue "Passenger Airbag"
5. After installing the short connectors on the air bags, connect the short connector (Part No. 07-MAZ-SP-00200), or equivalent, on the cable reel connector and another on the main harness connector of the passenger air bag to prevent static electricity from setting off the seat belt pre-tensioners before you disconnect them.

Enable SRS System
1. Remove the red short connector(s) one at a time from the air bag connector(s) and pre-tensioners and reconnect the harness connectors as soon as each short connector has been removed, to avoid static electricity from deploying an igniter module.
2. Install the red short connector to its storage location.
3. Reconnect the positive, then the negative battery cable.
4. Check for proper operation, as follows: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) position. The instrument panel SRS indicator light should come ON for approx. 6-8 sec's and goes immediately OFF.
