Stalling on startup

For the last couple of weeks, I've been having trouble starting my car. When it's cold or when it's been sitting for a while, it doesn't start right. It starts up after four or five cranks, goes up to around 2k rpm, then it just drops to 0 and dies. Sometimes, it will pop back up, but it normally stalls. If I give it gas for about 20 seconds or so right away, it won't stall. I replaced the battery the other day, so I don't think that's the problem.
Any suggestions?

i feel you. must be the weather affecting my car also because it usually starts off well during the summer until yesterday. It's cold and raining a lot. I let it crank 2-3 secs longer than usual because it sounded like it was coughing (poor baby). i wish i could just feed it some cough medicine... *sigh* //personifies his legend.

i had your problem before when i use to drive a lex ls400. the problem was loose battery cable. other than that i dont know.

I could replace the battery leads, but since the battery is brand new.. I'm not so sure. I guess I'll take it to the Ac dealer this week and have it looked at..

That's what happens to me too, if I restart or give it gas before it dies, the car drives perfectly and has no problem starting up again. Like tonight, it stalled when I started then I drove for fifteen minutes, parked for two hours, and it started just fine afterwards.. Crazy cars...

did ya check the antifreeze yet? if not dont just check the resorvoir also check the radiator itself , mine had some sludge like crap in it , Needed a serious flush

Should get around to checking it today, I've been pretty busy with finals coming up next week.. Thanks again for the advice

If it doesn't start on the first try in the AM when it's battled the cold all night...nothing's wrong!! Now if it starts and runs and then dies...then something's wrong!! Some have had ignition problems and others have had main relay problems...you might want to check those as possible faults!! Good Luck!!!!

Future X - Let me get this right , " If ya open the radiator cap ya have to bleed it "

Well mine does start then if cold enugh dies right away UNLESS I tap the gas real quick. Even after I beld the air, replaced fuel filter, new plugs ect....:( Im thinking I might have water in my gas cause by accident I drilled 2 small holes intothe top of my gas tank
