Strange feeling has me worried

Hey everyone,

recently i have been noticing a strage vibratation/shaking feeling when i am accelerating at highway speeds. it usually happens when im in 4th, 5th, or 6th gear and im at highway speeds. if i apply just a little bit of pressure to accelerate the vibratition happens. it feels like it is coming from the transmition or axles but doesn't feel like it is engine related. anyone ever experience something like this or have any idea what it is? i really hope its nothing big but it doesnt feel like a small problem it seems like its gonna be costly :(

i know the cv boots need to be replaced which i was planning on doing in next week or so. im hoping its related to that because that was something i was already planning on spending money on. i just don't know why i only experince the vibration in the last three gears when im at highway speeds?
A worn inner CV joint will vibrate when accelerating while under a load(going up a hill) while crusing at highway speed. Just had this problem. Installed a new axle from NAPA.
well i took my car to get an oil change today and they also inspected it and told me that my front right cv joint is basically about to fall apart and my rack and pinion is leaking fluid. they told me it should be about 200 for the axle and 870 to fix the leak. this was at a goodyear tire care center were im not going to get the work done but its still bad news none the less!

LOL @ axle price. I just replaced my axle with a new one from a shop I forget the name paided 54 bucks and installed it my self in about a hour.
i kinda figured they were a little high on the price. i didn't really think about doing it myself. . . how much work was involved?
ehh its not that bad. things will just happend and they are a , like you cant get a bolt in or the ball joint wont pop out of the lower control arm. but just be prepared to do a lil work. remember, C clip UP!
I was gonna say it's either a CV joint or a bad tranny mount. I have both going right now and the vibrations I feel at 80 would chatter yer teeth!
As for the axles, refurbished ones suck, get new ones online and then do the labor yourself or look for the best price on the labor. You can definitely save by buyng them yourselves and then installing them. I just got both of mine changed, and they quoted me the same 200 a peice. As far as rack and pinion, I cant say much. Someone who is mechanically inclined would be better to anwer how doable it is if you try it yourself. Have your tie rod ends checked too, as well as differential fluid changed. I didnt but I think I'd probably have to because I still have a bit of vibration at higher rpms and turns.
Definitely sounds like a bad inner CV. Just had both my axles replaced (if you're CV has been worn and you've been driving on it, you'll likely have to replace the whole axle as well). Was recommended to talk to Marty at Raxles (www.raxles.com) by people here in the forum. He sold me two axles for $120 ea. plus shipping. My shop installed them for $90 ea. They come with a lifetime warrenty as well.

I'd love to say that's the end of of my story though - the really severe intermitent problem I was having went away and is replaced with something that isn't as severe, is even harder to diagnose, and is much easier to reproduce for me (but everyone else who I've tried to explain it too doesn't notice it - it clearly has something to do with my driving style that nobody else does)... making it equally as annoying (though, doesn't feel like it's catastrophic and aforementioned shop claims everything looks alright) so sometimes it's not a simple fix but if your CV is clearly bad, it hopefully won't prove to be too difficult an issue to resolve. Good luck!

its weird... when i bought my car, it had a little oil on the CV boot, driver side... after a week, the boot was dry... went under today and looked at the boot, it was perfectly fine.. was dry and did not look like anything at all.. i read around and some have said also can be diff fluid or tranny fluid needs to be change... i will check some more tomm afternoon..

but i do have the vibration like everyone is saying... at about 55mph when i push a little on the gas pedal, the car just shivers...
Kamlung, sounds familiar. I too have the mysterious vibration at 55 mph at partial throttle. Its somewhat noticeable on hills as well.

Sounds like new axles :(
but its weird.. i looked at the boot and it is perfectly fine... no cracks or leaks... and usually i diagnose bad axles when i turn the steering wheel all the way and hear clicking noise..
When is the last time you got your differential fluid changed?
mine just vibrates all the time......hahha

unless i got the 17s on and doing 90....then shes all good.

I have to do my one boot still..been about a month.

im like 3rd owner.. so possibly never... lolz i will do tranny and diff fluid first to see if that helps... then we go from there...
Its a good idea to change them no matter what, especially if you dont know the previous history.
I have the exact problem that seems to be coming from my front left wheel. (intermittent vibration during acceleration or climbing hills). I just had it looked at by my favorite Tire place and they told me my axel looked good and they thought the problem was in the transmission but they were not sure??? I trust these guys but I’m not sure if they are right.

I was wondering if this problem was ever definitely pinpointed?

Any help would be appreciated!!

The rack and pinion I got no idea about that price but shouldnt be hard.

Good Luck if you do it your self!
The rack is not that hard to do, but you will need a 3/8 air ratchet, because it will take you all day to get the tray down if you dont have air tools. Pretty simple.

The axle price is rediculously over rated. I replaced mine in a couple hours in a driveway before i ever knew much about working on cars. Not hard at all.

Mine also has this same vibration. Just when you acclerate at around 65-90 ish. makes the dash vibrate. I have a bad axle and i know it. I will get it fixed here in another few weeks.

Diff fluid is kinda a pain in the ass to change. Not hard, but you need a pump to do it right. Tranny fluid just do the 3x drain and refill.
Definately check the outer tie rods as well. If there is any play in them going in and out, that may be your problem as well.
